Morgan Gibbs-White

None of the first bit sounds remotely plausible.

If he has a release clause, what woukd be the point of it being secret? And how would you enforce its secrecy. And once activated, there would be no point wanting more or holding out being pissed off.

Someone went wild with speculation there.
Did you not see Forest report Spurs about it? Secret is exactly what it was…

“Forest's bosses shut down lines of communication with Spurs, accusing them of an illegal approach for the player and a breach of the confidentiality clause in his contract, which prevented any public release of the value of his buy-out clause.

Forest have made it clear in letters to both Tottenham and Gibbs-White's agent that they reserve the right to pursue legal action in the future, and while Spurs remain interested in buying him and are prepared to meet his £60m clause, they have not yet pursued the matter.”

That reads quite different to what was claimed though.

That suggests the clause itself is not secret, in the sense agents and clubs can't know about it, but rather there is an NDA on it from the press once activated.

Well yeah, the enforcement is basically impossible, but I guess the point is the same reason you'd put a reserve price on an item at auction. Yeah you've got a minimum, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't want someone to bid more than that. And maybe I'm being naive, but perhaps that's one of the reasons why clubs often start with ludicrously low offers and gradually increase them. You wouldn't want to bid 60 million only to find that the release clause was only 40. Maybe sometimes that secrecy is honoured.

No, not sure why you think that?

The clause of £60mil was a secret, hence why when City were interested we were being quoted anything north of £80mil, point being the minute a club actually bid over £60mil then it would have to be communicated to the player.

The confidentiality clause is that someone in the know of the clause, which would have to be related to MGW & his agent, made Spurs aware of the magic figure so they bid bang on. Hence breach of said clause.

MGW been left at home, not gone on pre season. Also City have set price of £35m for McAtee according to BBCsport

Yeah that I don't find believable as a scenario.

Sorry, I just don’t.

Pretty sure his missus is about to give birth or at the very least is having a difficult pregnancy

Same here. Loves the club and for me has more potential than Gibbs white.
Extremely arguable that he has more potential, Gibbs White had a significantly better time at Sheffield United on loan than McAtee and has since gone on to prove himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the league.

McAtee has it all to prove, a good youth tournament, following a middling couple years on loan, and a year at City where he was regularly anonymous with the odd flash of promise?
