We’ve just waved good bye to 50m on Gonzalez and that was yet another central midfield fuck up that didn’t improve the first 11. Don’t do the same here, he’s a good premier league player for a team that most season has ambition to stay in the league and who play on transitions. Villa / Newcastle level at best. There’s no chance he should even be in the conversation for a Pep team that wants to get back to competing for every competition we’re in.

KdB has been really poor the past 18 months so those stats arent saying much.
The current equivalent to those players already plays for the top clubs and ain’t available And even if they were we wouldn’t go for them for some weird reason. The David Silva of today should be able to play RB first before getting our eye of interest
I sort of get this point of view because if you compare our current squads, we get maybe three players in the Madrid side, but I still think it's wrong. Real Madrid operate in a different way to us, have different types of players and achieve their success in a different way.
The cornerstones of our success under Pep have been working rate, team work, coaching, and maybe most importantly tactical flexibility and versatility. Then a core of exceptional players, but it's nothing like the squads Real Madrid or Barcelona have had in the past. Most of the 'superstars' in our squad have only become that at City, despite the media narrative that we buy our success.
For a variety of reasons we've lost a lot of that, we need to be targeting players that have those attributes, not just the best players available.
People said the same about Phillips and Nunes. Yes, Rodri is an alternate example.
All I’m saying is we don’t want to waste money on not strengthening the first 11 with the right quality. Gonzalez very clearly hasn’t improved the first team and MGW wouldn’t to the required standard. And he would cost a lot of money to not sufficiently improve the first team.

While I agree on MGW opinion....
I totlally disagree on the Gonzales opinion...he has looked decent in a dysfunctioning midfield and team and he did stabalise us in games we have played. He could be a player that plays at the top very level and could easily play alongside Rodri
Issue being not thought about is will rodri come back from this serious injury as good as he was?
Tbf if Pep thought he had done well enough since January he wouldn’t be turning to the lads who’s legs have gone instead of him in the big games.

Without Fernandinho we looked terrible, without Rodri we look terrible.
Cruyff said about Barca when they had Neymar, Messi and Suarez, that yes they look good now, but what happens when Busquets is gone?
That role is vitally important in the Pep system. Gonzales has been here two minutes and in much of the games he’s played, we’ve been far more stable with him at the Pivot.
The reality is, Rodri will be back next year, and (accounting for him coming back more or less the same player) we will look a much better side and anybody that plays in midfield with him will have the freedom to affect games.
If Rodri was around this season, Foden, KDB, Gundogan et al, might not have looked as bad and we’d almost certainly 2nd or 3rd.
Gibbs White would be great for us alongside Rodri, just like Foden will be.

Identifying players like MGW and Morgan Rogers is one thing. Signing them is another.
Agreed. Also, Madrid don't potentially only have space in their squad for English (well, home grown) signings. IF that ends up where we are, then which English players could we consider? His age, and him playing for a team above us in the league, suggests he'd be a possible.

We've done well by playing the long game before. You try this summer knowing full well that the other clubs won't sell. But you just keep going back every transfer window and at some point with the contract running down the player has to sign a new deal.
Re Gonzales. He needs more time. I think we will see more of him next year. Far to early to make a call.

Maybe he thought Kova as the number 6 has more legs in him to break lines (which he does) as he knows KDB and Gundo dont anymore whereas Gonzales isnt that type of player - Pep said post match he wanted more people close to their box - Kova offers you that...Gonzales doesnt but he is a damn good DM
You are way jumping the gun on Gonzales Im afraid...he is the least of our worries - letting the likes of Gundo, Grealish, KDB, Walker and a few others go is much more of an issue and then finding their replacements. Gonzales has already shown enough that he can be at least a decent squad player.

I agree with most of that - I also think that Gonzales and Rodri can play together as both are comfortable moving forward with the ball - especially Rodri
However Gibbs white is a limited player who plays in a completely different system to us...the actual anithisis of our system actually. He si ok with space to move int but facing a back 10 camped on the edge the defensive area is something he doesnt have the skill set to do...Gibbs white is not in the same stratosphere when it comes to technical ability with a football as Foden is when playing well
