Most intimidating London Ground in years gone by?

Old Den in years gone by.
Spurs in more recent years not the most friendly .

I went to Chelsea in 1983 / 84 season, when Jim Tolmie hit the games only game.
We were kept back an hour, and I was still hoping the cops would keep us in longer....
We were led through various streets to where ever our coaches were, with Chelsea trying to break through into the escort, but the police held firm. Thankfully!

went in the shed that day for that very reason - was safer there than in the City end (5 of us from Manchester standing together in the shed probably wasnt the best idea though with hindsight) - funny chelsea now v then really

old den by a mile cos it was a mile walk from the rail or tube safest way was the coach like the cool cats

These days most grounds that were once so intimidating are fine to visit .....

most of yesteryears hardened hooligans are now old men , and have long hung up their fighting gloves ...... they are now to be found either tending allotments , selling newspapers on street corners ... or knocking on doors collecting for charities!

Or writing books about the ''glory days'' ;)

for me it was the old den on colblow lane (even the rd name is eery) closely followed by middlesbrough.

your right middlesboro was naughtyt in the 70's

I was going to remark on the silence following Adcock's goal at the old Den,one of the strangest things I've ever witnessed watching City,I also went to midweek games there as I was living in London at the time, you try explaining to a copper you don't need an escort as you're parked round the corner in a barely audible whisper as to not get sussed.
Plough Lane was a bit of a shit hole and Chelsea hanging around outside only added to the tension as the plod wanted us out of Merton A.S.A.P.,is my mind playing tricks on me but did Wimbledon have a boozer attached to the ground, like the Butchers in Droylsden?.
