Most Overrated Player to Play for City

I mean, at least 2 other posters have mentioned De Jong being overrated so I could, in fact, be more wrong.

Don’t put words in my mouth, I never mentioned the term ‘ruined’. He did, however, break Ben Afra’s leg, break Holden’s leg and break another MLS player’s leg. In addition, is now infamous for an appalling tackle in the World Cup Final.

I’d argue breaking 3 player’s legs in your career probably deduces the player making the tackles has a bit of a problem, otherwise that’s some rotten luck.

He was a ‘heart on your sleeve’ player who often went to ground. Most loved this, thus overrated him as they wanted to see that. At the same time, in the same midfield, Barry wasn’t doing any of that as he had the awareness and positional sense to not need to, making him a superior player.

Hence my selection of De Jong as my overrated choice. I wasn’t gutted when he left, and barring kicking his way through to a World Cup final, didn’t achieve much in his career afterwards.

They may do, but it’s not who was shit, but who they think is overrated.

There can be amazing players, who are still over hyped for some posters.
They’re not saying these players are shit.

The only Holden i can see finished by injury was Stuart Holden and that was against Man Utd a cruciatte injury ,perhaps you can point me in the right direction name the match this Holden fella played against DeJong , and name the MLS player, although i wouldnt want to put words in your mouth.

Again, I never said finished, either.

Grade 2 ACL strain and a broke right fibula as a result.

Fill yer boots.

Some funny choices on here.
Think Channon whist a bit disappointing was a bit unlucky as Book changed the team to accommodate him.
Going through my time......
Paul Futcher in my view overrated
Most of big Mal’s signings though generally not good were players no one knew anyway.
Martin O’Neill came with pedigree and did nowt. Then we had no sodding money.
Rick Holden- way too slow
Fowler- never floated my boat
Pearce blew big money on the Greek Tragedy

i will fill my boots pal , if your thread was who was the dirtiest player , you win , but he was not an overrated player, you started a great thread in these times of self isolating boredom ,but your choice of player was to put politely a misjudgement on your behalf , just asked my City whatsap group was asked was De Jong an overrated player , not one of 20 odd people agreed , but most of them did comment he was a dirty bastard.
Would be interesting to see a poll , Was Nigel DeJong overrated ? Was he f*ck , he was a dirty bastard and thank f*ck he played for us and not against us.

Its their nickname. I like QPR. Always have.
Yes, I know it's their nickname. I just can't for the life of me why a fan of any other club would call them that. I can't see too many visiting fans saying that they're coming to x playing the Citizens, or the red devils, or the magpies, or whatever. It seems weird to me, soft spot for them notwithstanding.

I’ve always called Swansea “The Swans” too. Many of my Welsh family are Jacks; as are friends who I meet watching my country.

On a side note, I don’t think I’ve heard anyone use the Citizens term ever. One of the few clubs who don’t use their official moniker.
