Lineker, Shearer & Lawrenson are proof that being a decent player doesn't always mean that you would make a good manager or have an objective & balanced opinion of the game. In fact I find it amazing that some ex pro's can spend most of their lives playing football at the highest level & offer very little in terms of insight, knowledge or originality in the comments that they make. Lineker's article is typical of real St Gary, it reels of bias towards the status quo despite his comments about the top 4. He understandably let's off steam about the Hughes dismissal because he was/is a friend, but the comments which he makes about Mancini are a bit '5th Form' sulk. Anything to do with Mancini's short lived relationship with your beloved Leicester Gary? Feel a tad let down that he had a better offer in coaching? It's a childish insinuation I'm making which reflects some his punditry generally.
Shearer can make some decent observations & has come a long way since the wooden personality he was at first. But you do get the impression he has a very rigid view of how the game should be played - his way. The way in which he took apart Robinho was mischief making of the highest quarter. He was implying that Robinho was in some way responsible for Mark Hughes dismissal. Don't get me wrong we've all seen Robinho go missing at times, but I thought it was a cheap shot designed to whip up the calls for Robinho to be scapegoated out in January.
Lawrenson? I'm afraid I stopped listening to him a long time ago. He was Hanson's funny man at first with the odd quip which made me laugh, but now he's like Stan Boardman in Jongleurs. It just doesn't fit mate.
I'm equally non-plussed about Garth Crooks & most of the 'reserves' they wheel out at the BBC. The exception being Martin Keown.
I think the Sky team are a bit better but Jamie Redknapp is fast becoming my least respected pundit for one very objective reason - he talks bollocks!
To finish on a positive my dream team for MOTD would be Jeff Stelling with Charlie Nicholas, a less biased Andy Gray & Hanson with Tim Lovejoy for jokes....
