I did this last year, really good trip and took about ten days walking to get to everest base camp. gets hard though when the altitude increases and most people in my group were sick or dizzy. didn't do it for charity but went with the adventure company and would recommend them. the trip also includes some time in kathmandu.

link is here if it works...(i've never posted before even though i've been reading the forum for ages so apologies if i've not posted the link right!)

I'd love to do it! It's priced for a trek to base camp which is just over half way up the mountain but what an experience still?

I'm sure i read somewhere that to do the summit of the mountain it costs upwards of £20k due to the equipment, sherpas, insurance etc.

Quite a few companies do trips to Everest. The Adventure Company, Exodus, High Places. Explore, to name a few.

The problem with the Everest Trek is it's one track up, and one track down. You can wait for three hours to get over a bridge because of a Yak Jam.

The Annapurna Circuit is more peaceful, as everyone is travelling in the same direction, and the scenery is breathtaking,

I know the Everest trek will have more kudos if you are doing it for charity, but the best way to enjoy the 'big hills' is to do the Annapurna Circuit, and fly round Everest in a plane.

I've never met anyone who has done both who hasn't said the same thing.

Are you saying that 3 blokes, in walking boots, walking pants and a city top with a can of stella in each hand couldnt do it? I think we are more than prepared if im honest. If i can withstand brentford on a wednesday night, get there and for it to be called off then im sure i can conquer the worlds highest peak with my city top and a few cans, no problem!

I agree with this, the scenery is better on Annapurna route and it's more relaxed. I went to base camp in april last year and it was really busy with lots of trekkers and there was even a charity cricket match being played.

There were also lots of sherpas running past you carrying 2 rucksacks and wearing flipflops which is pretty disheartening when your struggling to breathe!
