Moyes Is Back!

right appointment.

he'll steady the ship and deliver consistent mid table stability. Would he have been @Stockport mackem choice?

Good question....he's possibly the best we could have got.
Still gutted we last the big guy...as he seemed a great fit for us.
My main concern is that this whole thing has fucked our pre season....no signings etc...and a new manager with only a few weeks to kick off.

We really could do with avoiding our customary slow start....but it looks like we might be the tea. Doing deals late in August...after the season is under way...
.is Moyes the right choice....god knows....if he brings stability ...fine..

I can't see him doing the rags many favours though.....given how he was hounded out.

Be fair to the guy. He was handed(and accepted) a poisoned chalice at the swamp. He was a reasonable manager at Everton, and was just in the wrong league for his next job.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the Moyesiah, but he could steady the ship there.

Pretty much how I feel.

Great appointment for me. With the 1or 2 huge exceptions last season, as a matter of course there will be a group of manager looking at top six(ish), another group looking at be safe in mid table trying some new things and trying to play a bit of football. Then there will be the teams in the bottom 6/7 that have to fight for every point in the desperate hope of having one more point than they need to stay up. I put moyes into the middle bracket n his first season and then move the club on from there.

I think he will do ok there and he will be given more time to build a team than at the swamp. He was an obnoxious prick to us while at Everton and humiliated at the swamp so he couldn't give us any grief there. I dislike the prick because of his digs when he was at Everton but I like the Sunderland fans so I suppose I would like to see him do well, aside from when they play us of course.

Sunderland now aspire to be like Manchester City.

This Sunderland fan has always aspired to be like West Bromwich Albion mate never mind Manchester City! What I would give for just ONE mid-table finish let alone two or three after years of the finishing record we have had. What I would give for ONE dull season of PL football. I would give back all the years from 2006 as a season ticket holder and all the years left in me for just one 11th or 12th finish. I would NEVER give our date at Wembley though. I want to take that to the grave. I am thoroughly sick and tired of all these battles against relegation.

96-97 = 18th
99-00 = 7th
00-01 = 7th
02-03 = 20th
05-06 = 20th

07-08 = 15th
08-09 = 16th
10-11 = 10th
11-12 = 13th
13-14 = 14th
14-15 = 16th
15-16 = 17th

Apart from the two consecutive 17th places under Peter Reid and the 10th finish under Steve Bruce out of 12 seasons in this league which I am sure to us is cursed, it has all been poor and a struggle. We have struggled so badly and for so long a good measure of how badly and for so long we have been poor at even trying to stay up with any degree of safety that Wigan have been able to go up from obscurity, get promoted to the PL where they spent a few seasons in mid-table, win an FA Cup and return back to obscurity. We are no better now at staying up with time to spare and with safety with Wigan in the lower leagues than when Wigan Athletic were last in the lower leagues. That period between 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 where we finished 13th and then 14th is pretty much the best we can hope for now. I would be very happy indeed if we finished anywhere near there. Sadly whilst my heart says 15th my head says 16th or 17th. Do we have the manager who can get us playing an effective, winning style of football? Only time will tell. The last couple like O'Neill and Bruce were not able to crack the puzzle of SAFC. The acid test comes not from playing the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool but the promoted sides and the likes of WBA, Watford and Swansea. I am so nervous of playing those sides but we need to prove we can beat those sides every time to finish 14th or 15th.

You say that about mid-table mediocrity my friend, but I once harboured similar ambitions as a City fan, after years as a 'yo-yo club', and then Stuart Pearce was appointed manager- be careful what you wish for!

Good luck though. I think Moyes will do ok for you. I certainly hope so. It's oft stated on here, but deserves repeating, Sunderland fans are wonderful supporters, as was best illustrated at Wembley in 2014. You deserve better than you've been getting in recent seasons. If mid-table mediocrity is what you wish for, then hopefully you'll have a cup win in the near future too, thrown in for good measure at some point, as your supporters deserve more than just mediocrity - and the Euro always that would most likely flow from that cup win would provide some light relief for you as supporters too.

Maybe Sunderland are the new Leicester. Get your tenner on now mate and remember my commission when you win it! Good luck for the season (other than against us).
