MUEN again and again

I seem to remember calling the MUEN over their report that the rags had poached our date for an open top bus tour the other year. When I pointed out that I knew for a fact it was incorrcet as City wouldn;t even be in Manchester on that day I was told categorically that my facts were incorrect and the MUEN story was correct. Oh how I laughed when a few days later there was a small article saying how City had stayed over. Funny how they didn't print an apology. It isn't the paper it used to be mainly due to the fact that news is consumed differently these days hence sales are down, free copies given away etc.

Again, I am baffled by this.
Here is our article from April 23,weeks before the 2011 cup final, in which it states the City parade would be held after the end of the Premier League season ie May 22 - when it actually did take place.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/35-years-coming-manchester-city-859143" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ity-859143</a>

Here is our May 14 article on United's plans for a parade on May 30, the week after City's.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-parade-set-for-may-30-860703" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... -30-860703</a>

So when you say you "seem" to remember, maybe it was more seeming than actually remembering?

Find the article you ran about 'our' date for a parade being poached had we have beaten Wigan in the FA Cup final. City were due to play away at Reading on May 14 and the rags had the parade on May 13 which your paper claimed we would have wanted had we won the parade. So even though we would have been at Reading on the Tuesday your paper and your colleague were adament that had we won the final we would have wanted that date. Even when I called and pointed out the fact that City wouldn't even be in Manchester on that Monday I was told in no uncertain terms that I was wrong and your paper was right. The fact that the headline was changed later that day kind of proved my point!

When you say you are not 100% sure, do you think it might be nearer 0%?

Here is the article to which you refer, written in Feb 2011 - not many bank holidays in February.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/ex-united-star-david-may-organises-party-853168" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... rty-853168</a>

And it was written by Mike Keegan, a staff reporter.
So, when you say it was a work experience lad writing a wrong story at Easter, what you actually meant was that it was an experienced staff reporter writing a correct story in February.
Like I said, lies and inaccuracies

Nice attempt to crowbar yet ANOTHER link for your shoddy journal in. You really don't miss a trick do you?

I'll tell you what I'll do, Stuart. I'm off work next week for a few weeks after an operation. Once Cheltenham is out of the way, I'll find the story and post it up in this thread.

If I don't find it, I'll retract my comment.

Jesus H Christ. I found the story for you, and gave you the link - it was in February. Which bank holiday will that have been?
And just to save you having to click on the MEN, I'll paste it here for you:

A former United star is planning a city centre bash – to celebrate the anniversary of City’s 35th year without a trophy.

David May, who won a European Cup with the Reds, has organised a party marking the Blues’ recent lack of success on the night before the next Manchester derby.

Fans will be charged £20 for the United Nights event on February 11, which is being billed on a fans forum as City 35th Anniversary Party.

Fellow ex-Reds Frank Stapleton, Arthur Albiston and Clayton Blackmore, are also expected to attend the bash at the Walkabout Bar on Quay Street.

The M.E.N. understands the Stretford End ‘ticker’ banner, which celebrates City’s barren spell, will be ‘turned’ from 34 to 35 during the party.

Advertising the event on his blog, May, 40, wrote: “The next United Night has landed perfectly, it is before the biggest game of the season, A TITLE DECIDER WITH CITY AT OLD TRAFFORD IN FEB. Hundreds of Reds getting together for a night they will never forget.

“WE ARE ALSO CELEBRATING CITY NOT WINNING A TROPHY IN 35 YEARS!!! HA HA. SEE YOU THERE!!!!”

After the M.E.N. contacted May, the final sentence and a picture of the ‘ticker’ banner were taken down. He said the event was part of the traditional ‘banter’ between fans and was not meant to offend.

He added: “It’s one of the biggest derbies in a long time and I’m sure the fans will be singing about it and the players will be asked about it. It’s friendly banter.”

The event is the latest of the United Nights, which were set up by May aimed at fans travelling to Old Trafford matches from Ireland and Scandinavia. Live bands perform and supporters get the chance to mix with ex-players and sing United songs.

A spokesman from United Nights said: “This is not a City Anniversary night. Some fans may have described it as that but we haven’t. There are 300 Norwegians coming over and they know nothing about City’s history. It’s an event we have before every big United match.”

GMP said they had no plans to police the meeting.

The Blues last won a major trophy – the League Cup – on February 28, 1976.

United fans often use the fact to taunt their rivals and the ‘34 years’ banner takes pride of place in a corner of the Stretford End. City boss Roberto Mancini promised to ‘take that banner down’ last year declaring City would soon win a trophy.

May, from Oldham, joined the Reds from Blackburn in 1994. He was part of the Reds squad that won the treble in 1999. He was a City fan and as a youngster had trials with the Blues before joining Blackburn.

Madchester band The Fraudsters have been signed to play the event and there will also be an auction and a raffle. The derby is at Old Trafford on February 12.
That David May seems a right ****, hope he's enjoying the season.

So you don`t deny that from the info that SB has given,it is incorrect from a Citys point of view ? Only asking ...

I said I wasn't certain that it was the David May 34/35 banner. What bit of that did you not understand?

What I stand by is that there was an inappropriate article put on the website, which attracted criticism. The excuse given by the MEN was that it was submitted by a junior member of staff, due to a staff shortage.

As I've said, if I don't find it, I'll retract my post. In which case, you have no reason to get defensive about it.

That does ring a bell to be honest.

Yeah I have a vague recollection of a work experience student being blamed for some article.

Oh and he seems to have made his point pretty well so I'll accept it, whatever it was *scratches head*.

You'll have no readership soon! Or is it that the lobbying from this forum has had an effect?
I guess we'll never know.

There is a vast difference between a "works experience kid" and a "junior member of staff" irrespective of who was at fault,if any, seeing that you only have a "vague recollection" !!!!
A very poor WUM, moomba.

What are you on about?

I simply said I had a vague recollection of a work experience student being blamed for some article. Wouldn't have a clue what paper, who blamed him or what article.

As I said only asking, seeing that you are one of the main protagonists,in trying to prove that the MEN is talking bollocks, when they have indeed come forward with some evidence to support their claim that NOT all the claims against them can be proven.<br /><br />-- Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:14 pm --<br /><br />

So basically you aint got a fooking clue but nevertheless you will try and support something which you aint certain about.
Mmmmmmmmmmm.Good job SB can keep on proving some people completely wrong and they aint got the wedding tackle to hold their hands up.It just fits nicely into another agenda by the MEN,as you certainly didn`t state that originally.
