Maybe nobody on there makes a song and dance about anything they print though? You'd have to ask one of our resident cafe-goers from here to check, of which there are many.

And if you think United fans don't think the MEN is anti-united, think again. United fans I know call it the Manchester Evening Blues, to name just one nick name for it.

I dont think City fans make more or less of a song and dance as United fans I just think that the MEN has overstepped the mark and has actually denigrated both the club and fans to the extent that they have turned off customers
Clearly they've not turned off customers though, as it's all people on here talk about with the slightest whiff of anything negative said. What was it the other day? 'They've not talked about the game', despite there being a 9-page pull out on it.
People look for negatives, and more often than not they find a negative that isn't even there to be found in the first place. That's in general by the way, not just the Evening Blues.

It's insecurity, Pidge. I suspect an element of our fans suffer from it worse than other fans because after years of playing second fiddle to Man United they are desperate to be seen as on the same footing or higher, and are looking all the time for proof that we are or aren't. And the local paper is the perfect "barometer".

But it certainly isn't just City. I can't remember if I posted this or not. Last week a mate who I haven't heard from in 20 years got in touch via email. Big Leeds fan. I asked him if he was still watching Leeds and he replied "Yes but getting sick of it. The FA, Football LEague and Media all hate us" and it made me smile to myself. Being honest, he was never the brightest, and that's how the world appeared to him from within his little Leeds United bubble.

Having said all that, I've done my time standing up for the MEN after that fucking scouse divvy wrote that "empty seats" piece. I don't think they are biased but I've lost any faith I had in the competence of their editorial team.

I shall say it again, when the sports desk has a credible boss and not that hysterical man utd fan who comically and shamelessly used his position to weep and moan to every media outlet going about utd's plight i shall click and buy.
Stuart seems a nice fella but after that Steve bates meltdown i can't be bothered with their opinions.

i don't mind him being a red, i do mind the fact my 6y nephew has more composure after 3 bags of skittles than Mr Bates though.

Always thought Steve Bates worked for The People Sunday Newspaper, mate.
That's Master Bates.

I wonder how many times a correspondent from the MEN has to go on to Redcafe and apologise for mistakes in the MEN for articles about United if I would hazard a guess I bets its never

It isnt about an agenda its about negative press. Look at all the positive press this Liverpool side is getting and yet they made as big as loss as we did is that the story in the media no but our loss was

I admire the fact that SB has come on to the forum to defend the MEN I am just disappointed that he has to

When will the rest of the employees realise that by writing these stories they are alienating potential customers. I live in north Wales so dont get the paper but used to go on-line but just hide the publication on my news now feed since the empty seats article

I was turned off years ago, when we had nowt. Never had a fair crack o' the whip even in those days. MANUre stories on the back page when we had a match and they didn't!

Sorry i meant Peter Spencer, Bates is still a **** though :D

Sorry Oakie they are shite as a publication bud.
As i say a few seem decent but that lunatic rag in charge of the footy desk is almost funny.

i am not an agenda person but someone who likes solid sound reporting and after hearing that Spencers voice wavering on TS i cracked up laughing and thought "what a fucking loser" if i am honest.

Im not gonna get in on the conspiracy stuff.

but mistakes happen all the time in all papers, As Stu Bennan said, in the rush to get things out there things creep in, be them incorrect images being used or gramatical errors, Its not just the sports sections though, its through out all the news, the other week there was a headline( I think it might have been the MEN but im not sure) about someone being "killed to death" which is really quite disrespectful to the dead and the family of the dead.

Media outlets either need to hire more editors or QA staff or slow the pipeline down to fix these problems. but I cant see that happening.

Its not just the media though, up until yesterday when you googled PC world the logo that came up was a joke logo that said "Like Dell but with worse customer support". that was fixed today though.

I remember something similar if you googled Leinster Rugby after Munster won the Heineken cup it came back "wouldn't you be better off supporting Munster?" cracked me up.

For those people like myself P.who read it on a regular basis, you should see how much negativity they`ve given those fuckers "over the road" within the last month.Fucking hell they have been doing a great job and I`m not talking about the odd column, but pages and pages about Moyes and his poor management skills.
Pity that those people on here who claim the MEN is shit should grow a pair and look at both views on both clubs.

To be fair those fuckers over the road are at their lowest point in over 20 years and have been breaking unwanted records all season under the guidance of a buffoon, one would expect a tad of negativity for more than a month.

how dare you come in here talking about "paranoid tosh" - if your rag did not publish the picture with the salary on it then there would have been no issue, but it did - so frankly you are the paranoid one, muppet

It seemed the most appropriate phrase to describe it when someone seizes on a simple, harmless error, which as quickly rectified, and uses it as "evidence" of a terrible MEN conspiracy against City. How am I paranoid, exactly?

I don't think there is any intent in showing the salary in the photo I just think it is shoddy editing. Brennan points to the original article showing pictures of City players and their salary (as the source of the original photo) but why are the MUEN discussing this in the first place if only to expose our huge wage bill - where is the counter balance showing what United or other clubs are paying out?

You mean this counter balance? <a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/revealed-wages-you-would-pay-6753671" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ay-6753671</a>

my use of the word paranoid was in response to your unreasonable use of the word to another poster on here. Having thought about it a little more I would expand as follows:-

I think you are unbelievably defensive, both you and your publication; the particular episode of the red circled seats was frankly pathetic, and you should just have manned up as a person and a publication and come in here and apologised and also apologised in your publication

Likewise when a picture is put up of Sergio Aguero and just happens to have £200k per week on it, then I think that is more than coincidence, and again you should have accepted this was just another piece of shit journalism, rather than questioned the paranoia of a genuine poster in here. Can we expect to see a picture of Rooney with £300k a week on it, or with an image of an elderly prostitute on it? I don't think so do you? Or maybe I am just being paranoid. I think the day when a Blue is appointed as the main reported for united will not come in my lifetime either - or maybe just paranoia again?

Frankly Stuart I think your "newspaper" is worse than appalling in its coverage of City these days. City have always been a predominantly Manchester club in our support, and I think we deserve a lot more decency in our coverage from a supposedly local newspaper. The ongoing digs in print, as well as the garbage that peter spencer comes out with on air make it clear what your "newspaper's" policy is towards City.

Let's agree to change paranoid to unreasonably defensive. The day that your "newspaper" openly apologises for its red circles on empty seats article, AND starts being balanced in its coverage of City, is the day I might consider buying it again or clicking on it again

It was 13 years ago that Fergie christened us the Manchester Evening Blues, and I can remember as a teenager in the 70s United fans complaining that the MEN was City biased. And don't forget, I was blackballed at United, and we got untold grief from them about my coverage of the Glazer takeover, nine years ago.
The negativity has always been there, for both clubs, but has also always been overwhelmed by the positivity.

Funny that this article hasn't got a mention yet, four pages yesterday on United's woes, as seen by prominent fan Fred Done, including loads of positive City stuff - he even says City are "murdering" United on and off the field, and is full of praise for what Sheikh Mansour has done.
Wonder why nobody mentioned it?
