Muffin or Barm

Damon albarn was on Chris evans's r2 breakfast show this morning. They were talking about a savoury cheesecake and he asked how can a cake be savoury? He's got a point there. Would you like icing in your barm cake sir?

Well iced fingers are just hot dog rolls with icing on

when I hear a rendition of "have you seen the barm man" I will accept it exists, also go in any shop and they sell muffins, english muffins, baps and rolls, you won't find the term barm on any package

Neither company comes from Manchester so has no relevance to this debate

http://martinsbakery.co.uk/

click on the bread link bottom right (Pdf so no idea how to put on here) clearly this Manchester baker sells Manchester Muffins
Neither company comes from Manchester so has no relevance to this debate

Not quite getting this are you?

Do you mean this link to a Baker who is actually from Bury not Manchester so has no relevance to this debate

Just give it up even if you manage to find a Mancunian calling them muffins it just means they are as wrong as you. Oven bottoms are the only other bread product that may get called a muffin in MANCHESTER but they look nothing like a BARM

Six years into the debate and Muffin people have resorted to posting companies from all over the known world yet not found Mancunian companies calling them anything other than a Barm

Wonder if there's any chippy that sells both "chip muffin" and "chip barm". Good way to keep everyone happy.

Fvck right off that's the culinary version of a Half and Half scarf just plain wrong!

I actually own a few Sandwich shops and Trust me its a barm it is derived from a measure of dough
if you go in any of those and ask for a muffin the usual response is Chocolate or Blueberry?

Right you are! Didn't think that one through before posting.

Just to end the thread type muffin or barm on google images. muffins come up as cakes, barms come up as well feckin barms.

You are doing a global search. At least try searching for it in UK.
Then barm turns up as a sourdough loaf.

The flat round breads made from a barm based sourdough starter are not made commercially anymore.

These thick, fluffy imitations of the original use yeast to leaven them similar to their thinner, denser oven bottom or backstone (or bake stone) baked cousins, which still use their original recipe. The barm, by change of recipe has therefore bern turned into a muffin.

For the last fucking time

A muffin is only a cake in the USA................it's been Americanised over here.

A muffin is not a fucking cake you imbeciles.

Muffin..............since the year DOT
