I have a theory that barm is south Manchester and muffin is north Manchester, can anyone confirm?

Well I know for a fact that a 'pasty barm' was a Bolton delicacy that could also be ordered in Wigan.

Muffin is a mule: Fact!

No mate, I'm originally a North Manchester lad (Prestwich) and its always been BARM,
It still has "Chip-barm £1.15" on the price list, I had one 3 weeks ago. Lovely.

Well that's pissed on my chips.

Could be an exception to the rule though.

Re: Barm or Muffin

Went to the chippie today, after reading this post, and it said chip barm. I took mine home though and had a chip buttie. yum yum

Re: Barm or Muffin

Southerners think muffins are cakes.

Oven bottoms. People use other words but at the end of the day when you go to the chippy they always put chips on an oven bottom muffin.
