Coronation Street had the save our barm wars during the 80's, nobody ever gave a fuck about muffins. Indeed the word muffin (possibly) isn't of English origins, whereas we all know the word "barm" is firmly from Lancashire. Your move muffin mafia.

Undoubtedly to appeal to the "masses", whilst the muffin may be made locally in some of the less reputable bakeries it is fair to say that it is not bread product invented in the north-west, unlike the barm that is proudly born of Lancashire.

If you need further evidence:

This "jammy delight" is a Lancashire oven bottom muffin:

whereas this is the barm in all it's glory:

Imagine walking into a chippy and asking for a "chip muffin"

They would look at you like "a what?"

Barm.

I have never seen a chippy with a barm on the menu anywhere..

I would probably get laughed at and thrown out if i asked for a chip barm.

Its a muffin now get over it.

"Cookie"...? 'Muffin"...? Are you a yank? You've probably never seen a chippy. Get back on the porch with your banjo, redneck.

Over here in God's country, it's a BARM! ;)
