Muffin or Barm

I'd say east Manchester mix and outer east Manchester muffin.

I think you may find that the traditional cotton weaving and mining areas use muffin, the rest are barmpots. Then the areas in the suburbs that were populated after slum clearance in the centre brought their word with them.

Anyway, a muffin is an oven bottom muffin and barms are a bit bigger, thicker and fluffier but not as nice.

I like this. I often said that the 'Ewing's' were aristocrats - aristocrats of the cotton mill and the coal mine, so it was always a muffin. Wards on Moston Lane. Anyone walk in there and ask for anything other than a muffin would have been marched down to the Lewis Rec or Boggart Hole Clough and lynched. Bloody foreigners and their foreign muck!
