Murtaz Shelia?

I seem to remember one of them scoring at Alfred Mcalpine in Huddersfield in a midweek game too......we had about 4k behind the goal that night-good night out!
Your right mate Tskhadze scored in that match we won 3-1 other scorers Wiekins and Briscoe.

Shelia was definitely a defender, could play either LB or CB. That Brum match was a joke, it was into stoppage time when Shelia scored, where the ref got 7 minutes from is anyones guess.

I liked him, one of our better players in those days of shite. Got amongst the goals quite a bit for a defender.

does anybody remember this guy?he played upfront for us.he was a big georgian lad.he played for us in 1997/98 season when we had that yellow and black limited edition kit.

sure he was a centre back.

He was , he might be thinking of Mikhael Kavelashvili.

Shelia was a left sided defender who played on the left side of a back three, I think, when we arrived in 1997/8 and were lumbered with Frank Clark's wing back system. He got a bad injury, IIRC, before the end of that season and missed pre-season. He played the odd game in the Division Two year (was living abroad and so don't remember), but as I remember, reports suggested that he didn't look the same player following the injury.

Tskhadadze was a tall centre back who was nicknamed 'Kind of the Air' in Georgia. He arrived the same season but was dropped after Joe Royle took over, and there was a lot of talk that Royle wanted rid. But Tskhadadze won his place back in pre-season and scored in the first two games of the new season before injuring his cruciate at Fulham in that awful August Friday night game. We never saw him again.

I think we paid them both off at the end of the 1998/9 season and they went back to play in Russia.

Gio's mate....I remember Gio saying he was better than him........turned out to be very average.....[/quote]

Yes, scored on his debut against United at Maine Road and everyone thought we might have a star on our hands. I think he got one more goal for us!

We had about half the Georgian national team back then! I seem to remember one of the two defenders (not sure which one) got injured away at Fulham and I don't think played for us again.

Just looked up and if we believe Wikipedia, Shelia came back from injury and then suffered another serious injury against Reading in October 1998. The club released him eventually in 2000, and he went back to play for Lokomotiv Tblisi.

Tskhadadze was released by City in March 2000. He never played for us after his injury at Fulham in August 1998, and he also went to Lokomotiv Tblisi.
