Listen...you smell something?
Oh God, another music thread!

Another thread got me thinking, music is all about the time and place. Where you first heard something. Who you were with. Memories. Stories. The music might not be that good but the memory of it takes you back...

Anyhoo...

New Order - Blue Monday. The original 12".

I was 16. I was playing for the Hampshire FA schools side and we turned up at a posh school, they had rather nice facilities so a lot of youth football was played there, that had a form room with a record player in it. Someone had put on Blue Monday whilst we sat in the changing room. Half dressed I almost ran into the room to hear the song. I made them put it on again. It was amazing. I bought it the next day. Played it to death.

Whenever I hear it I'm instantly taken back to that March day. I have no recollection of the game, the score or how I played. Just the song.

I'd like to hear your first Smiths story.
Oh go on then...... (I know @jimharri is dying to know too)

Bought the 1st album and the Manchester gig at the Free Trade Hall (March 84) was sold out.
A few days before the gig I was on the Football Special going to see City at Brighton. Reading the NME and The Smiths were playing that evening at Lanchester Poly in Coventry
The special was stopping at Coventry to pick up the Leicester and Rugby supporters club and my parents lived in Cov at the time too.
On the way back with £4 in my pocket I jumped off at Cov, called my mum and told her to leave the key under the mat.
So now I had £3.90. At this point I had no idea how much a ticket was but didnt think it would be more than £3.50
Walked to the Poly and there are two blokes at the door at a table - told me it was sold out but there was a lad across the foyer selling a ticket. I called out asking how much he was selling it for. The doorman replied for him "£3 face value" and the lad agreed.
Once inside it was a case of a beer (65p) and walk to my mums or no beer and a bus trip.
It was a good walk back after a great gig.

Woke up in the morning and my mum came in with my clothes she had washed.....
"Did you take out the ticket from my jeans pocket?"
"What ticket?"
