Must see documentaries..

As if I hadn't tormented myself with the worst aspects of football today, I finished watching Super League: The War for Football. 4 episodes in total from AppleTV. Apart from some of the main contibutors being people I despise (Tebas & Panja being 2) the biggest disappointment is that there was very little involvement from the English clubs. The only time any of the executives from the 6 clubs spoke were the recorded statements of regret after it all collapsed. It still contains some of the obvious terminology pointed our way with the state-owned and sportswashing labels being bandied about by some of those involved.

Last week watched Monster (2004) for the first time brilliant film so started reading up more on the serial killer Aileen Wuornos case. Came across two excellent documentaries by Nick Broomfield 10+ years apart detailing clear police corruption, interviews with her clown of a lawyer who makes Saul Goodman look extremely competent in comparison and exploring if we as a self-respecting society should be executing a clearly mentally unstable individual.

Part 1)

Part 2)

Yes she was no means innocent, but this woman was failed at almost every stage of her life. A very tragic life she led, it's difficult not to feel some sympathy on some level considering the amount of trauma she experienced. Definitely recommend.

I don't know if it's been mentioned on here but "TraumaZone" (iPlayer) is fantastic. If you want to understand Ukraine and the Rise of Putin and the oligarchs, this is a good place to do it.

If you had told me that 7 episodes with no commentary, made up of clips compiled by the BBC, could be some of the most riveting TV I've watched, I would not have believed you.

It is.

For those who like this sort of thing, this documentary on the origins of the First World War is well worth a watch....
