My day yesterday (technically speaking as it's gone past 2 am as I type). A friend of mine has told me (he has just started working with me this week), that when he was 35 he left home for the first time in his life back in 2016 and moved to a leasehold flat in Shoreham. Three years later he moved back with his parents as he couldn't financially cope with the Section 20 repair works.
However, in October 2022 it was found out by his parents that he is bi-sexual and was threatened with being thrown out. He however had nowhere to go at such short notice and was given an ultimatum..... become straight and find a girlfriend but never go with any men and that if they see any evidence that he is LGBT, he is out.
So, he lived under their rules hiding his real self and recently ran into money issues as he can't access his fixed savings account from the sale of his flat. They have been wanting to see his bank account and the sign on details. His father checks regularly.
Well, he has told me that he is finally breaking free. A work colleague at his last job has offered him a place as he has a spare room in his flat, while my new colleague's parents are trying to talk him out of it and he pretended to accept.
He however was on the phone today to a storage space company and told me that his parents will be on holiday soon. He is going to spend the time they are away from the country, moving his stuff back and forth from his parents house to the storage facility and the room he is moving into. Then once his fixed bank account becomes accessible in November next year, he is going to pay off all his loans and then find somewhere on his own.
Quite a story he told me on his first day, fair play to him and total respect.
