So sorry to hear of your families lost.

I hate the way gambling is shoved down our throats. Every match has loads. I would go as far as banning teams from having betting companies as shirt sponsors both for team shirts and training kit.
I hate that City have a betting company as the training kit sponsor absolutely hate it.

It’s all very hypocritical when it comes to football and gambling.

Footballers can wake up in the morning and watch some tele while having breakfast and there are gambling ads on, they get in their car to drive to training and there are gambling ads on the radio, they turn up to training and there’s gambling sponsors plastered around the car park/at the entrance/on the walls around the complex, they put their kit on and there are gambling sponsors on their training gear, they walk out to the pitches and there are gambling sponsors around the sides, they finish training and check their bank app and see that they’ve just received a sponsor bonus of a few £grand from a gambling sponsor… on a match day it’s the same but during the warm up there are also gabling adverts on the big screens, there are competitions lead by the gambling companies; and for the fans watching at home there are multiple gambling ads on the tele on every break and there’s even one just before kick off.

There’s a big (and can be a huge problem with some players, especially some of the British lads!) gambling culture in Premier League football. A great deal of them are obsessed with money, who’s earning what, who’s got which agent and what’s he getting for their players, and gambling is a big part of their culture.

But if they bet on the wrong thing they can get fined and/or banned, despite them being bombarded and force fed gambling in every aspect of their lives.

But they’ve got the money… the average bloke on the street doesn’t and we get ourselves into some right messes financially and mentally over it all.

I’m all for gambling sensibly, I don’t even mind the free bets to get you started on an account (sorry to the OP for opposing the point of this thread); but, much like there are no adverts for cigarettes anywhere, there shouldn’t be any adverts for gambling anywhere neither. I think this is where I would sign a petition, to ban advertising for gambling.

Anything “free” is designed to get you buying the product. Free bets are no different. I watch these “when the fun stops, stop” adverts, set your limits and all that shit. They don’t give a fuck, if they did they would enforce limits not let you set your own. It’s like asking a drunk to decide how much to drink. It’s a token gesture at corporate responsibility, oh look at us we care, no - you fucking don’t.
 
Thank you all. I am overwhelmed by your support. I had no idea about how big a deal gambling was until recently and that is because of my lived experience. It is a very greedy industry and I have learnt how relentless they can be at getting customers to deposit money. Adverts, sports sponsorship and incentives are plain wrong in my eyes. Loss of life is tragic and if the government cannot act on that, then they really just don't care enough.
