My idea - Play Yaya at centre back for certain games

Kevin Keegan said it yesterday and I agree with him.

How can we get better? simple play Yaya at centre back, harsh on Lescott but he lacks height in certain situations. Yaya would be more dominant, he could still have a licence to roam forward at times.

This way we could accommodate another forwards or NDJ in midfield.

Anyone agree or do I need to lie down?
Good idea, mr guardiola.

Had a similar discussion with my mate the other day- It seems to me as if the only reason Yaya got away with playing defensive midfield wiv barca was bcoz it was barca, no other reason- for such a big man I am shocked at how poor he is in the air (he really is), players can also take him on quite easily- I think Mancini realised that the man cannot defend. He's a quality play maker with perfect passing and bursting powerful runs. Slightly annoys me wen he seems as if hes limping and slightly struggling as he tries to make his way back, but as soon as we've got an attack or hes wiv the ball hes miraculously perfect! Yaya is a great player but i dnt think he can defend- it is clear to me that he doesnt do the dirty work and would therefore not be suited to CB. Lescott is a worry and a shaky buy which seemed to be based on a 'good season with Everton' which i believe he wa recognised for his goal scoring rather than his defending. At the moment he looks ok, but if we want to be the best he isnt good enough- His footballing capabilites are a little shakey as he seems cumbersome on the ball, aslo tentative wen under pressure and lacks pace. Whilst we are the positive team who constantly puts the opposition under pressure it is ok but wen the boots on the other foot against tricky fast paced teams (Europe especially- United, Chelsea, once Arsenal, Poss Liverpool with Suarez) i do worry for him. I do hope i'm wrong, but i believe Kompany's partner is the missing link.

Lescott and Kompany should be left as is. Yaya is great in midfield so why restrict him?.

Unbelievable!

YaYa is no centre-back and is much better employed in his box-to-box rôle.

And why do people still slag off Lescott? He was an integral part of the defence that had the most clean sheets and the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League.

Give the lad a break; he is a quality defender!

Every day, there will be a thread saying 'Let's swap an integral part of the best defence in the league for a fancy sounding player who i've only really seen on youtube, but i had in my career mode team in Fifa and he had a better rating than him'

So, this thread makes a refreshing change. You've swapped 'fancy sounding player who i've only really seen on youtube, but i had in my career mode in Fifa and he had a better rating than him' for an attacking midfielder, who can't defend, apparently on the basis that he's about 2 inches taller, and he played there once, in a game where Barcelona weren't required to do any defending.

Some of these threads about the defence are doing my head in ffs. We have conceded 3 fucking goals, 2 of these games were away. Get a grip people!!

Our CB/def thread.

Dozens of threads ending up with a Lescott discussion all over the place. Can we have one thread only mentioning Lescott and CB pairings/signings for us. I have been guilty of this too on certain threads and my own topic posts too.

My take is this....

Many of us seem to forget that for the majority of last season Lescott sat on the bench. Kolo Toure ring any bells? He is still our most experienced CB and has more champions league experience than most if not all (clichy?) of our squad. When he comes back and gets match fit then Lescott is 3rd choice after him and Vinny in my opinion and probably most (?). If Mancini goes to his new 3 cb with 2 wingback option then we may see all three of them at some point.

We have not been tight at the back. We have not kept a clean sheet besides against Swansea at home (hardly anything to run naked through the streets about). We conceded 3 to the Rags last time out and are constantly giving away needless goals. We dont win corners at either end of the pitch. We dont defend set pieces well still. We give away silly free kicks in silly areas. Joe Hart has been under a lot more pressure than he needs to so far this season, and he is not superman so cannot save everything. Not trying to be a moaning minny as we are joint top and we are all buzzing about our start, but im stating things ive noticed and facts.

I for one don't see a weak link in our team right now. POTENTIAL weak links could only be this issue, and the Clichy/Kolarov rotation i.e do we get it right each time they rotate, resting/substitute affects play etc. etc..

Thoughts. Im sure there will be plenty on both sides.

Didn't we have the best defensive record in the league last year ? This year so far we've played 3 conceded 3 and scored 12. One of those goals shouldn't of stood and the other 2 were scored away in a local derby. All that while playing really attacking expansive football.

Come on guys/girls get some perspective.

EDIT lol sorry wrong thread its the other Lescot slagging of thread I want.

Yaya Toure is a bad defensive midfielder? Damn, now I've seen it all....

He was/is/will always be a superior CDM and a CB than Mascherano.

And this is coming from a Barca fan and a big Masch fan.

Yaya really is a jack-of-all-trades, and he does all of those things terrifyingly well, in my honest opinion.

He was always a solid CDM for Barcelona. You can say that our possession renders the anchor man role not as important, but he was pivotal in breaking up counterattacks and such when he played for us.

The thing is he's not just a pure CDM, he has got class in distribution, attacking, and other areas as well.

1. Yaya is average to poor in the air.
2. Lescott is our best defender in the air. So trust if he got beat by Davies for that jump ball, 99% percent of our teamwould have gotten beat.
3. Yaya is not a great tackler.
4. I think Keegan was joking.
