My mate's new banner

I think the idea is the juxtaposition between the sentiment of the song and the reality of the end of last season. The banner asks the reader to examine their support of Manchester City and the emotions it stirs. It challenges the heart and soul to accept the wayward nature, and occasional joy, of football support. It also throws a humorous challenge to supporters of other teams, in the best tradition of football rivallry. I'd say it's situationism at it's best.

Class.

However-

Definition of situationism
noun
[mass noun]
1.the theory that human behaviour is determined by surrounding circumstances rather than by personal qualities.
2.A revolutionary political theory which regards modern industrial society as being inevitably oppressive and exploitative.

Perhaps your mate would like to comment on how he sees his flag in relation to the two theories espoused here.....-:)
I understand situationism - I went to the hacienda.

The flag itself is not situationist, but my mates holding it aloft and singing 'championes' definitely is ;-)

DD taking Gold at the Para Olympics. Class

Thank you to both of you for producing two more class banners. Just one more thing that sets us apart from the rest.

"No history" they cry! So how comes we produce such fine banners that celebrate that history we lack? We might not be able to commemorate trophy after trophy but we can celebrate better than that, we celebrate #TOGETHER - the fact that we never gave up, we never abandoned ship

Excellent work, both of you.

These are great examples of our wit and humour and proves that we will never become like that lot in Salford.

An old timer who sits near me goes mental every time that song is sung claiming it will effect the players and its too negative.

I kept it in all season until the QPR game where I explained that we sing it so we never forget where we came from and the chances that Edin , Carlos , Kun and David are going to understand it are very fuckin slim.

I hope he understands now but I ain't holding my breath.

FWIW I love the song it was one of the many highlights last season away at Norwich , MCFC OK !!!

It's a song I remember singing many a time traveling on a train up and down the country seeing us lose week in and week out. I Love that song.

What's everyone's opinions of my mate's new banner? Look out for it around the country this year:

Bit stupid really as we do win home and away. The badge is obviously class.

Irony my friend, I thought a good dose was in-built in all City fans!?

I hope you don't mind me correcting your post Vienna_70 but that lot are in Trafford!! As a proud Ecclesian, who, without being asked, has been taken over by Salford I do not want to be put in the same basket as that lot!! No offence meant to you. :-)

It was right up there with 'We're shit and we know we are' - self-depreciating but very funny and typical City humour. Especially remember these being sung throughout a 5-0 trouncing at Chelsea soon after we were promoted back to the premier in a game I think Sun Jihai was sent off 5 minutes after coming on as sub.

How things change eh?
