Nadim Zahawi

I agree with your overall point that we shouldn't think "ethnic minority = poor/disadvantaged", especially when it comes to Zahawi specifically. And there are big differences between different minority groups - Indians as opposed to Pakistanis, for example. But you're wrong about (most) Africans in the UK. For example, "only 2% of Black African households were in the wealthiest fifth of British households pre-pandemic, while more than half were in the least wealthy fifth." https://ifs.org.uk/inequality/press...in-education-but-wages-and-wealth-lag-behind/
That's not necessarily incompatible with what I said though. Obviously in any population, the number of people qualifying to study for medicine is going to be a minority.

I can't quite remember the exact article, but it was comparing the difference in attainment between the kids of black Africans and black Caribbeans, and basically, it comes down to the fact that most Caribbeans came over as lower-skilled labourers, whereas the majority of Africans came over as skilled migrants, so their kids reflect that background.

A somewhat analogous example would be to compare British people of Pakistani heritage with their counterparts in the USA. The latter group is much more likely to be educated to a high level, in a professional occupation, financially well off, etc. than the former, because the circumstances of their migration were so different.

What amazes me is that there are people out there - people who would be really outraged if you called them stupid or suggested they didn't understand what they were voting for - who imagine that the likes of this man have their interests at heart, and want them to be better off.

Well, here's the news. Cunts like this are only interested in enriching themselves. They don't give a flying fuck about you, your family, the place where you live or the country. They wrap themselves up in the Union Jack, but it doesn't make them patriots. It's all a ploy, intended to stir your base instincts and emotions, so you will vote for them.

And if you say Keir Starmer is no better, I can understand it. But it's all a matter of degree. I'd sooner eat corned beef than dog meat.

Dan Neidle's final take on this is interesting - final, because the tax side is now laid open pretty well.

- his legal/advisory side would have cost many times what Zahawi's would; he just has a lot of friends who helped for nothing. The SLAPP legal bullying theory does work though.

- the house of cards wouldn't have collapsed without the print media journos at the Independent, Guardian and Times.

- HMRC may have been economical with the truth over whether someone was being investigated.

I’ve dealt with loads of Kurdish people in recent years. What they share with Zahawi is that they are a little bit wide at times, but unlike him are genuine people, honest (in their personal, if not business dealings) and likeable.

They have a certain resourcefulness and capacity for hard work that is easy to admire. I like doing business with them and I like representing them.

On the other hand, Zahawi is a ****.

The sickening thing again is they have to get found out before they come clean, how much money do these people need or want ??
He comfortably sat there in parliament arms folded holing the second highest job in government whilst debating the country’s desperate needs. Despicable human being.
Never known a corrupt government like this.
Makes a South American government Look like democracy.

Classic senior dismissal protocol. Decision taken day ago and most likely before the fake investigation started.
Deal obviously done. Coordinated comms from dismissed and dismisser. No admission of guilt, play up the positive contribution (however limited). Try to move on with dismisser taking the bullish high ground…. Look how decisive I am.

Must think people are stupid. Tick tock wankers
Too true. Apart from the last line - problem is lots of voters are now either apathetic, gullible or have selective hearing.

Nope, he was born in Baghdad, so his Kurdishness is related to his ethnicity not the location of his birth. If he was described as an Iraqi born Kurd it would have made more sense. It’s a minor point but you’d think the PM should get it right.
He didn’t - the writer from his private office - didn’t want to get it right.

Dan Neidle said on Times radio today there’s another revelation coming soon of another MP in a similar story, not quite as much money, and not a Tory.

Yep. But I think it’s ingrained. This is England. Subjugation and deference rules. Pep’s happy flowers bloom across the country.

I’m amazed at the lack of anger, I know the media get what they want, but it’s so easy for them to do so. 12 years and more of austerity killing public services and shrinking the disposable income of the majority at the same time as quantitative easing increasing the income of the top 10% of the country by £135k - just because they hold assets. Fuck all to do with performance or intelligent decisions. Just because they had an asset. And yet Johnson still became prime minister which led to Truss - fuck me - and now this current school prefect. Where’s the rage! Colleagues and friends tut about pot holes and that’s about it.

Read an obituary of Tom Nairn recently and his thinking on the many political/economic fuck ups and fucked up attitudes in this country having its roots in the emergence of capitalism under a landed aristocracy. Got me thinking about membership of that club of chums. Which other country on earth would put up with allowing the 7% of the population who go to independent schools, dominating entry to oxbridge and Russell group unis and then controlling two thirds of the so called powerful jobs?

Super post. You've forgotten about the lobotomisation caused by football, celebrity and an education system that does not want people to think.

As a one off I flicked onto GB News this morning only to see a Tufton Street economist saying that we need to cut corporation tax now, our economy is not being affected by Brexit and that we need to balance the budget by cutting public services. Do people really go with and believe this shit?

I’m a cynical, despondent, melancholy fucker, so yes sadly and too few question it. On the one hand apathy and on the other fear - the Tories & their media are good at selling fear & their solution to the fear they’ve manufactured.

Plus a public school system that confers unbelievable privilege to everyone who goes through it. It gives its recipients huge advantages in life no matter the ability of those going through it. It’s confers nepotism across every walk of life and that enables the proliferation of a small group of very wealthy individuals who wouldn’t want their hegemony threatened by anything so risky as a meritocracy. There’s a reason the rich pay £15/20,000 a TERM for their progeny and it’s not for them to be educated..

There are people who’ve never had a pot to piss in who support looking after millionaires just in case they become one, one day. Don’t forget the true working class Tory who just believes that they’re better than him and his ilk. If it wasn’t so sad, it’d be hysterical.…
