The "Cancelo". Like discovering a new element, he and Pep should get all the credit for discovering a new position.

Indeed.Full backs lost their meaning when teams stopped playing 2-3-5, so did centre half and inside forward for that matter.
He is just a half back really now, whether right left or moving into the centre.
It’s not new.
Pep’s done it for years, starting with Phillip Lahm.
Fernandinho played a game doing it from left back early in Pep’s reign here. Stones did too against Palace(I think it was Palace?) once a few years ago. Delph played it for most of the season in 2017-18, and Zinchenko in 2018-19.
Can I change it to Baby Bell?Mini-Bell
Yes. I thought it might be called OakeyDoylecockie. Perhaps not, but against Gladbach he reminded me of Alan Oakes.Full backs lost their meaning when teams stopped playing 2-3-5, so did centre half and inside forward for that matter.

Yep it's not really new. It's still inverted full back, as it's known. Cancelo's interpretation of the role just took it to another level. It’s not new.
