Even the family stand was full and the only empty seats available to the public were several hundred towards the back of CBL3. They'd have definitely been filled as well if the 70 point restriction hadn't been in place because just by looking at this forum alone there were plenty of cases of fans not being able to buy tickets because of that. Plus there was the general chaos with the ticket office that ensued immediately prior to the game which by all accounts prevented hundreds of fans from getting tickets.
Rag and media WUM's can get to fuck for me. Many Rags either have no idea or conveniently forget that there are a whole load of skeletons in their closet regarding attendances at their European games in the 1990's. So for any of you lurking cunts, let's once again remind you of this particular stat:
City - a thousand or so below capacity for our first ever Champions League group game. Attendance: 44,000.
United - seven thousand below capacity for their first ever Champions League group game. Attendance: 33,500.
As part of my missionary work can you let me know who the 33,500 was against?
AIK Gothenburg in September 1994 - their first ever Champions League group game.
Others worthy of mention too, some of which you've already touched on - European Super Cup vs Red Star Belgrade in 1991 where, if memory serves me right, the crowd was around 22,000.
UEFA Cup vs Torpedo Moscow - 19,998.
And their first European home game after the ban on English clubs from competing in Europe was lifted, in 1990, vs Pecsi Muncas in the European Cup Winners' Cup - 28,000.
