As others have said...we looked a bit tiered. Silva mis-firing all night. Sane making wrong decisions / poor touch. Should have made subs much earlier. Roll on Burnley.
I reckon we would score two more as well if the game went on for 10 minutes longer. And why was Napoli unlucky? Because Stones was excellent and was doing what everybody claimed last season he was not able to be doing. BEcause Ederson was doing what he is capable of! If Napoli was was unlucky, then I can say we were calamitously unlucky not to score 3 more goals at least. For many posters here it is always an issue of a glass being half full/half empty. I am an engineer and for me it is always about the glass being the right size to hold the water and that is what our game plan and performance achieved last night. This Napoli side right now are the same level as all those teams that were causing us problems at Etihad in previous CL seasons. And still, our win was very comfortable.
They missed a penalty and should have done better with a couple of unforced defensive errors.
And yes they are better than the teams either of those two play. I never thought either of them had a chance to win it though. I do think if you can tighten at the back you could. But only if its sorted, it's getting caught out too often through basic errors.
That in the CL, always comes back to haunt you.
Fans certainly did. Three of them mainly.As others have said...we looked a bit tiered. Silva mis-firing all night. Sane making wrong decisions / poor touch. Should have made subs much earlier. Roll on Burnley.
Did you used to walk around Maine Road with a big sign stating the end was nigh??? You've just come up with a 5000-1 conundrum on City not qualifying to the group stages. Are you a a glass 9/10ths empty kinda guy? :-DHave I misunderstood something, or is the group F table a lot less comfortable than it looks like?
City could still end up third in case of the following:
1. Feyenoord loose all their games; Their remaining games are Napoli home, City away and Shakthar away, so this is very likely.
AND
2. Napoli beats Shakthar at home. Quite likely in my opinion.
AND
3. City loose both away games to Napoli and Shakthar
If all 3 conditions are fulfilled Napoli, Shakthar and City will all end up with 12 points.
In that case the following rules determine the ranking of the teams:
What this means is essentially that in case all 3 teams have 12 points, we can throw away the results against Feyenoord, and only the direct comparison between the 3 teams will count. In other words City will have to beat at least one of Napoli and Shakthar in the direct home/away comparison to qualify for the next stage. We have started okayish by beating them both at home, 2-0 and 2-1. But actually yesterdays result is not very comfortable. Napoli only have to beat us 1-0 at home, and they are better than us in the direct comparison.
- higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question;
- superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question;
- higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question;
- higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question;
So City needs to get a result in at least one of the 2 away games in Napoli and Donetzk to be sure to qualify. If we want to win our group we need a result in both games. Given that Napoli and Shakthar probably are the best 2 teams we have played this season, that is not gonna be easy. We need a couple of performances equal to what we did in the Chelsea game to go through.
you won.
the fact you grinded it out shows character after making so many mistakes - from final ball when on top, to pens given, from a period of intense pressure.
this is a turn around for City. the problem was never really the quality - it was not grinding it out in tight CL games and just being pipped.
5 PL teams top the 8 groups at present. City the best team in the PL. pre tourny odds 14/1 - now 6/1 for the city to win.
Tighten up at the back with the way we play doesn’t happen we dominate the ball and opposition have literally 1 or 2 clear cut chances oh and find me a team in the history football who concede no chances you talking garbage and looking for thing that aren’t there.
Ok, you win. Nothing to be concerned about. What was I thinking?
Glad you seen sense
