Next week the lottery will go up from a pound a line to 2 pounds a line, i know its the first increase since the lotterys inception in 1994 but its too steep for me

I have had 2 lines every Sat and Wed costing 4 pound using the same birthday numbers right from the start, a rise to 8 quid is out so one of the lines is going to have to go and you can bet that the line i drop will come up soon

I know there is an increase in prize money mainly the 10 pound for 3 nos going up to 25 quid but i think they have dropped a bollock here and a lot of people will stop playing

Can't help you with the price rise but have you thought about doing the lottery online through direct debit?

That way if you win you will automatically be informed and you will never have to check your numbers and you will never know if that missing line ever came up

I agree.

100% increase is ridiculous. They were making exactly the same profits so why bother ? The same numbers were doing it and only 40% went to prizes, the rest to charities and profits/costs. By increasing the price they will simply get the same percentage of reduced profits as definitely many, many will either cut their number of lines or just stop it altogether.

£1 is something you don't think too much about. £2 is something you think about. With 3 lines twice a week you are talking about rise from £6 to £12. That is an extra £24 over 4 weeks - less than a month. You can have Sky for that.

Me and Mrs do 5 lines mostly birthday numbers for both draws and we have decided to only do Saturday draw.

We have a syndicate at work 6 lines for both draws and we have decided to scrap numbers and pick 3 new lines (lucky dip) and have 3 lines for both instead of 6.

Most people will cut down especially with the way finances are at the moment so no gain made and only losses with increase in winnings.

Good idea mate but i am sure to spot it somewhere, all the family know the numbers and i know theirs so it will slip out somewhere, ah well whats a couple of million quid

Can someone explain how a 100% increase is ridiculous when the minimum win goes up 150%?????

Can see your point but the reasoning is with people struggling for money they are hardly going to double there budget to gamble on the lottery.

If you played 2 lines before, just play one now.

Fools errand playing the lottery anyway mate.

I don't mind the increase.

It's not like serious gambling. It's only pocket money and I do it for a laugh.

You're not going to win the jackpot so an increase in the minor prizes might make it worthwhile if you pick up four numbers every once in a while.

Yes, but I think that the psychology behind playing the lottery is not an expectation that you are going to win but it allows you to daydream about what you might do if you win.

£2 per week for a pleasant daydream is probably decent value.
