I had some thoughts like that myself but it isn't really the time for that kimd of talk.

Their privacy needs to be respected so they can get on with their lives.

If the British government had acknowledged the debt, why was it necessary for Iran to take the case to arbitration at the International Chamber of Commerce. Let's not forget that this was a debt dating back to 1971 when the then Shah of Iran paid upfront for more than 1,500 Chieftain tanks, the order for which was cancelled when he was deposed in 1979. By the time judges found in Iran’s favour 22 years later, the EU had indeed imposed sanctions on Iran. However, the British argument that it couldn’t pay any money directly without breaching those sanctions doesn't wash given that the US were able to make arrangements to clear a similar debt in 2016. In any case, a deal has now been struck irrespective of sanctions which remain in place to this day.

Yes, the difficulties concerning payment during sanctions could have been overcome ab initio, but there was the stance that we would not give in to hostage taking. Pity our citizens had to pay the price. I would have acknowledged the debt and payed up long ago.

I'd be a little surprised if he walks away from the money she's going to earn from a book and film deal.
 
Why has it always been Nazanin’s name in the media and not the other fella who’s been released? I didn’t even know about him and there’s a third person who hasn’t even been released yet, it’s always been about Nazanin.
