Ndombele (signed for Spurs)

Manchester City are considering a £40m bid for Lyon and France midfielder Tanguy Ndombele (21) in the January transfer window. Oleksandr Zinchenko could be offered as a makeweight to Lyon if City make a move. [Telegraph]

Not a fan of the Zinchenko part, but would love Ndombele. Best possible DM signing we could make IMO
So if we get Ndombele and De Jong that’s an amazing midfield but what does that mean for Bernardo, De Bruyne, Silva, Foden? Never mind Gundogan who I guess will go, Fernandinho who will phase out.

We won’t get both. We’ll do well to get one of them.

Think it could work. We wanted Jorginho without anyone leaving. Would have been De Bruyne, David, Bernardo, Foden, Gundogan, Fernandinho and Jorginho.

This way it would be De Bruyne, David, Bernardo, Foden, Ndombele, Fernandinho and De Jong. 7 players for 3 positions is a bit much. But with Fernandinho turning 34 in May and David turning 33 in January, they can’t go on forever. This situation assumes Gundogan leaves which I would gladly support. Foden is also still developing physically as well.

The best would be to get Ndombele in January and then in the summer sell Gundogan and bring in De Jong.

Wouldn't he cost more than £40m?

Silva will be 33 years old next season, Fernandinho 34. I'm not saying they have nothing to contribute because they're both WC, but gradually replace them in two 21,22-year-old players, along with Bernardo and KDB we will have maybe the best midfield in the world for nearly a decade ahead

Loads of talk of signing 2 midfielders not 1.
Nah, loads of talk about being linked to both. But there are no talks about needing or signing 2 Midfielders.

We'll try to get one or the other. My sense is DeJong is the preferred option, but Ndombele is a capable replacement.

We've already replaced Silva with Berny and Foden. With So we have Foden, Berny, Kev, and DeJong we'd have 4 very talented and in their prime Midfielders plus 2 WC aging stars backing them up. That's a fantastic core to have.

One big thing people seem to forget about Fernandinho is that, yes he is 33 and will be 34 next season, but he is also playing nearly every game.

Buy Ndombele or De Jong then all of a sudden Fernandinho gets MUCH more rest, meaning he can last WAY longer, by that I mean I see no reason he can't play for us until he is 36 or 37 years old.

This isn't even mentioning the fact that Delph actually looked really good as our DM against Fulham, he is similar to De Jong in that he dribbles to be press-resistant and has excellent passing range.

Would not be upset if in a couple years our DM combo is De Jong / Delph and hoping for an EDS member to come in at some point in 4-6 years.

While Dihno is playing too often, and that has an effect, he simply isn't as good as he was at his best. Yeah, he can have flashback games like he did last week. But this will become more and more the exception and not the rule.

We need a starter, so Dihno can play the role Kompany and Otamendi currently play. That of an experienced substitute.

As John and Eric have taken over those roles without a pip of hysteria, so will Ndombele (or preferably De Jong) take over without any notice.

I think Ndombele is the best option to play defensive midfielder or pivot, as he is physically strong, agile and has good ball handling. De Jong seems very good in terms of passes. vision of game, but something physically weak for that area of the field, I see him more in the position of De Bruyne than Fernandinho. I also like Neves but the price that Wolves will ask for in January will be too excessive and I doubt that City will break the transfer record for a defensive midfielder.

Try watching De Jong,it may help.

And welcome.

De Jong seems to me a fantastic player, but for me it would be to waste a talent so having it only to defend and start the play.

Thanks for the welcome, I am Chilean and here City is one of the most followed clubs.

How about this. We buy ndombele this window, let Zinchenko go . Then in summer we buy DeJong and loan him out for a season to Girona. So next season we us Ndombele and Fern, 20/21 season Ndombele and De Jong

I guess I wasn't really clear in my comment, I'm not saying Dinho to be our starter, simply refuting the ideas on here that we need TWO new DMs.

Dinho can be our backup DM for the next 4 years if we rotate him properly, and as I mentioned as well, Delph looks good there. Would be a waste to buy 2 players for this position.

Not a chance De Jong would sign for us if we were sending him to Girona or anywhere else on loan.

Ndombele is class. Him and Ferna rotating, with Ferna eventually taking a smaller role, would set us up well for the next few years.

I have not seen any lessening of performance from Fernandinho at all, as good as ever for me
