Ndombele (signed for Spurs)

My thoughts from another thread:

Ndombele looked alright last night! Had the highest passes and success ratio after our back 5, plus the most successful long balls. Big, strong, young. He looks like a new fangled version of Fernandinho, which is high praise from me because I LOVE Ferna.

Was very very inpressed with him last night. We couldnt get him off the ball when he received it in midfield, strong, powerful and the skill to protect the ball and turn a player with speed to move forward.

Reminded me of a young certain yaya toure and fernandinho

Would be huge welcome to the team - get it done

Ndombele:
  • Hard to get the ball off him. He has a combination of physical power and dribbling ability to beat a press.
  • Can turn away from his marker to beat a press pretty good. Did that many times yesterday
  • He has very good passing ability
  • He is so positive in his play. Always looks to play the ball forwards rather than back
  • Very good on the tackle
  • Heir to the throne of Fernandinho?

Apparently Frenkie didn’t have his best game tonight against a Greek team. He also had a horror show in Ajax’s biggest game of the season against PSV. I know he shined for his national team but let’s be real he was playing in glorified friendlies. Let’s see how he plays against Bayern but imo he hasn’t done enough to just the rumoured €70m+€20m in bonuses fee. Beat Bayern and Ajax could top the group so it’s another important game.

Right now Ndombele looks the better player and more ready. We saw recently Jorginho struggle with the physicality in the PL and he is built just like Frenkie. I really think Ndombele’s physicality is the tie breaker.
Dave and Bernardo has schoolboy physique but they're fine in the PL.

Ndombele is the best replacement for Dinho I've seen, De Jong is not a replacement defensively, although one of the best in the world at creating from deep he offers less defensively than Gundo

Exactly, we need a player who is adept defensively.

Ferna offers us an incredible amount in this regard and we would need to have him replaced with a player of similar ilk.

I’m struggling to remember when they played DM, had to tackle players on the break, or simply take one for the team to stop anymarauders from getting at the back two.

However, you are right....if we are looking for Ndombele to be our next creative midfielder, sittimg in behind the attacking line and playing the killer pass inside the 30, then he probably doesn’t need some of his current skills and could use a few of Dave and Bernie’s!

From the players mentioned to replace Ferna, Ndombele looks like the closest thing I have seen.

yes they do but remember that they have freak Fernandinho behind them doing an awful lot. FDJ could give us that Jorginho effect but in a few games against very good opposition we would be badly exposed to have someone like him behind a bernado and silva

Ndombele on the other hand could be the closest thing to the complete midfielder to take up that DM role in our squad right now.

They don’t have to play DM to tackle and be tackled. It goes the same with everyone. With that goes I hope we can get both Ndombele and De Jong and just play either of them as DM according to the opposition. De Jong can play as an 8 too.

Let’s just get both and be done with it.

I think we need two. Relying on Dinho is madness, he has no back up.

Those legs are going to go and when they do the drop off will be sudden and drastic. He simply can't go like this at his age.

We need 2 players for his position.

Looks a good player but I wonder if he put in that sort of performance on a regular basis? Lyon's league performances indicate they "lift" their game for big occasions, the rest of the time they're mediocre. Pep might get him to do it however.

Saw some his highlights against PSG and he was great as well. Think they were posted somewhere in this thread.

Pep Guardiola on Lyon's Houssem Aouar:

"Houssem Aouar is a very good player, he is incredible. We talk a lot about Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He's always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality."
