Need a new passport ASAP

The HMPO have this week changed the way you can apply for a fast track passport and you can make an appointment at the passport office online, have the forms completed ready for when you go, complete your appt and the passport is sent to you within 7 days. www.gov.uk getting a passport urgently (sorry can't do a link on IPad).

Don't panic you've got plenty of time, this is now a very efficient service....amazingly

Thought I'd made an early contender for 2016's most boring thread but really thankful for all the help. Cheers guys!

Only had one done in haste about 15 years ago, mine had a few days left, checked on phone and they said the airline might not let me fly as it would be expired if there was any flight delay on the way back. Headed down to Liverpool handed stuff in mid morning , car keys and mobile into tray etc, chatted up this female security guard which think might have helped. I was also dressed like I was on the beach which might have told them i needed it asap. Flight was 9pm ish so when I handed it in I said I needed it same day , they said "mid afternoon".
So I did some shopping for partner had a few pints visited Cavern Club , Liver Building etc. Went back about 1.30-2pm they said it had been ready ages. Dropped car off at long stay, bus to airport, we were drinking in bar pre flight at 6pm . I was well pissed when I got on plane.

Every time I done it by post it's been a 6-9 months before flight so never been in a rush so never took notice of posting time which i guess is the info you need. Know 6-7 people who also done a same day one family and friends so as Blueish Swede said "if you don;t mind scouse accents" do it that way if you want it in your hand . If not read the posts of people who have had more recent experiences by post.
Only posted this to let you know if you cock it up by mail , if you have transport you can always head to Dipper central and it won't take too long.

A special thanks for putting the time in. But most importantly: was the security guard scouse?

Loads of time. Just pay the extra tenner or whatever in the post office. They check it and send it off separately then. They have to say 6 weeks or whatever to cover their ass, but they always come back within about 2 weeks. Me, my old man, a few mates and some lads in work all did it and they all had theirs back in that time period. No sweat at all

I'm off abroad in mid March and have only just realised that my passport is not going to be accepted as the photo has seperated and it's generally tattered (plus I look like I'm wearing orange lipstick and they might arrest me solely on that basis).

Does anyone have any previous experience or knowledge on how to get an application fast tracked?

Shouldn't be an issue. I know someone who completed the process online, forgot to send a photo, was contacted by the passport office to send a photo and still had it back 12 days after starting the process. No need to visit miseryside or pay a premium.

Check and send is a waste of money. Just complete the form properly and apply alongside the level of urgency.

An interview for my first adult passport was hilarious. I had to describe my journey there including landmarks (we discussed local pubs) and which countries I wanted to visit. Very surreal experience.

a lad at work needed a renewal quick as his had expired.
he made an appointment at the passport office and on the day they refused to do it as the expired passport was water damaged.
ring the office and ask what is the quickest way and tell them your passport is damaged

Don't fret, I've managed to 'misplace' 2 passports in the last year or so. Had the first replaced via the online route and the second was a meeting at HMPO Liverpool, both arrived pretty prompt without any hiccups. You'll have no dramas getting one before March whichever route you apply for one.
