He did next to nothing at Preston so maybe it was the right time to move him?Always seemed odd to me that this great player was sold to PNE (no disrespect intended) at the age of 28, only 2 1/2 years after winning the Cup for us. I know he was out of favour with Allison in 71-72 but come on, Preston ?
I think that his lifestyle had caught up with him by the time he was transferred. He was smoking 20 to 30 cigarettes a day even when he was playing. It was a real shame that he was unable to stay with City for what should have been the peak of his career.
