Fowlers Penalty Miss said:Calm down. Who cares. We have owners who have said they are going to make City the powerhouse of world football, and if that means spending £100 million on a player, so be it.
The media will hate us for it, other fans will hate us for it, the whole world will hate us.
And when we are crammed into our little seats in a few years time watching City lift the champions league trophy, will we care what the world thinks?
Well, I won't, and neither will you.
We know what we have been through, the other teams supporters have been taking the mick for decades, and they have not experienced what we have.
Other clubs have bought their success for decades, and now it is our turn to have some fun. I'm not going to apologise to some Arsenal fan because my team has upset the applecart.
The last time City won anything I was wondering if Sally liked me. I had spots on my face and I was a bit awkward, if you know what I mean. Now, I'm worrying about my pension!
Lets see City win something. Personally, I can't wait, and I hope it starts in Istanbul.
Top Post.
I've been a Chelsea fan all my life. Didn't get to see them much until I was in my teens in the late '70's and then I started going regularly with mates in the '80's and hardly missed a game when we had the team with Dixon, Nevin & Speedie etc. Always had hopes of success (doesn't every supporter?) but deep down probably knew that a cup run was realistically only hope as we never had what it took to challenge for the league. That's why I've always had a soft spot for Man City as I look at the two teams in similar light. We had a great early 70's side with Osgood, Bonetti, Chopper Harris Cooke etc just as you had the great side with Bell, Lee, Corrigan etc. We've then both gone fucking years without any real success (I was at Wembley for the Full Members Cup final when we beat you in a 5-4 classic - that was as good as it got!). Just as you thought you had a side that was going somewhere, it all went pear shaped and we've both suffered a number of relegations and yet despite all that we both have always had fanatical support.
So when we got Abramovich on board and then Mourinho and we went and won the back to back titles it was something that I never thought I would see in my lifetime. Unbelievable. Unfortunately, now I'm married with wife, kids & mortgage I don't get to go anywhere near as often as I used to when we were shite - but that's life. To be honest, the famnatical support I mentioned earlier, only seems to be at away games nowadays. The "atmosphere" at Stamford Bridge has become a joke with all the "new fans" - too many women, young kids and corporate tossers these days - it's how Kenyon wants it 'cos they spend the cash.
Success will always have it's flip side. Of course I enjoy the football and the quality players we have now, but I can't help wish as a club, we were more like the side that I fell in love with when football wasn't a business.
I know I have posted a few wind ups on other threads, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I genuinely hope Man City can put a few noses out, just like we did. There is nothing as satisfying as seeing scousers crying on the outcome of a football match.
