Had the boiler for 12 years, keep having to get it repaired every other month, so think it's time for a new one.
Anyone any recommendations and idea of prices for unit and installation? Where's the best place to go for such things?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can pay £200 or £2,000... Depends what it needs to do and how long you want it to last.

Valiant or Bosch/Worcester are the to go to for quality. We had a Bosch in the last house and it was great although you do hear people slag them off, my parents have a Valiant and that has been no bother either.

Bump this thread up again.

Terrible time of the year but our Oil heating is on the blink but we are considering pulling the lot out and switching to Gas.

Its going to be a big job as we want to 1) pull the boiler out and go gas, 2) fix the pipes in the houses (shitty extension done before our time) and 3) new bathroom.

Anyone any advice? Best brands of Gas Boilers and prices? Combi boilers best? Sort of trying to work a budget but understand it will be £3-5k. Cheers.

Screwfix pricing on boilers is competitive, if your plumber has a Plumbfix account I think they’ll get better pricing. Unless your putting a system in a property to flog it on, stick to top end of the market there is not a lot between then so I always gravitate to the one with the best guarantee/ warranty on offer. The last one I had put in a property was an Ideal Vogue with a 12 year warranty.

Worcester Bosch boilers are good but mine can't be used with Hive and things like that, so check that if it's important. The mistake we made was having the combi boiler put in the old cistern cupboard in the middle of the house meaning the cold water has to go upstairs, get heated, and come back downstairs to the kitchen. This results in up to a minute's delay for hot water to the kitchen taps. The British Gas engineer told me that when they quoted but as they were double everyone else I ignored them. Worcester Bosch do a one off service at £125 and they turn up so no hassle. My neighbour has a Vaillant and recommends them - probably little between them.

Build quality wise it used to always be Bosch Worcester but talking to the lad I know who fixes condensing boilers he recons Vaillant are the better bet these days.
Bosch have some silly ideas like having the heat exchanger right at the back of the boiler so it’s a full strip down job to fix it, whereas Vaillant don’t so it’s much easier to maintain.

A lot of the better makes now offering 10 year warranties. We’ve got a Veissmann which has served us well - get it serviced annually and we’ve got a Magna Clean fitted underneath which takes a lot of shit out of the system.

Sent you a massage, good luck

I have had a Vaillant combi fitted by a plumber (friend of the family) for about 10 years now, probably more and it was his recommendation that we have one of these fitted. I have British Gas service which covers yearly boiler service and they always comment at what a good boiler Vaillant are.

We had an Ideal at our last place and it was an absolute bag of shit, I made a point of asking the engineer which would he choose and he said hands down Worcester. They're apparently very dependable and really easy to work on if needed.
Had mine 11 years, serviced just twice, the second just a few weeks back. Thought it was on its way out so got Worcester Bosch in directly and they have two prices ... £350 for a strip down and replace any parts or £125 for a service. In the end it just needed a new diaphragm and some minor parts and he just charged the lower price. Yeah, I could have got a local engineer for about £75 but they never turn up.
