New City Pub To Open Inside the Stadium

The point City try to make about everything - it’s for people who’ll pay a bit more money than the regular matchgoer

They should look at the OT ashes days.

Theu had the bog srandard john smurfs, calsberg and dark fruits bar pretty busy.

Then they had the craft ale bar wwith local j willie lees, holts and another non manc brewer on.

On both days I was there the craft ale bar was busiest and sold out.

Building a specialist pub not for regular fans will keep plenty in town, the townley and the rest and going in at kick off.

Have adecent pub in SSL and CBL corner and it would attract more pre match drinkers

Honestly, I don’t know why City don’t build something like that Marquee place at Wigan’s ground. It’s fucking enormous. Do something similar or even bigger (it’s not like we don’t have the land), whack a load of big screens inside, put food on, decent choice of beers at reasonable prices, with shit loads of bar staff to ensure quick service, and they’d clean up on a match day. The pub choice near the ground is pretty wank really. The Townley and Corner Shop are ok. The Victoria too. And I guess Mary D’s is what it is, but after that you’re struggling. Maine Road was miles better with loads more options.

If you don't mind a ten or fifteen min walk ( or like we do jump on the tram, they are every six mins ) Clayton Connie club is ok

There's no point in comparing the Etihad & Maine Road for pubs as 2019 isn't pre-2003 when we moved. Local pubs have closed at an accelerating rate, especially in less affluent areas. Loads have closed near our old ground and our current one & that won't be changing any time soon.

Fortunately I no longer live in Ardwick Green but in a far more affluent part of Greater Manchester but out of six pubs that were in reasonable walking distance of my house five years ago only two are still open.

I saw a place in Clitheroe the other day that might be a good template. It's actually the Bowland Brewery Tap, the brewery is in the same building, visible through a glass wall. The actual pub is a huge room with a big central bar with pumps all the way round. They serve food and there are rooms opening off that can be hired for weddings and stuff. It was amazingly busy considering Clitheroe ain't exactly Las Vegas.

This is part of a complex in an old mill. Right next door is a big food hall, where you can also eat, and then (I think) there's a cinema or such like thing attached.

Now to translate that into City terms, the club could get one of the local small breweries to relocate onto the site. You could have your huge pub, which might form a destination in itself if the beer and food choice was right. A food hall might be a bit of a stretch for Beswick at this time, but maybe something like a cinema complex could be bolted on. The investment would be significant, but to someone like our Sheikh, it would be pocket money.

Ahh the sherwood, happy days, you've brought a tear to my eye
It was The Sherwood Pub i marched to.. alone..after the final game ever at Maine rd.to try and come to terms with the fact id never ever be going to Maine Road again..there was a band playing or somat after the match,to this day i have no clue which band played..i was off at the final whistle,i didnt want my memories of that ground to be wrapped up in some silly pop /rock gig..Southampton had just beaten us at home...woz i in the mood to listen to live music from a local band, woz i fuck....off to the Sherwood ! And it was a march....but intercepted by stopping and looking bzck at Maine rd..not quite believing id never be there again...

Little was i to know..the next time id be in the area was the day after Aguerooooooooh....2012. I survived the match; ) went partying in town (bumped into Jackie from Blackely who had been at Newcastle in 68 when we last won the title....,stayed overin Denton at me mates.....but had to return to Maine rd..Manchester City were Champions of England...how proud was i .me and an old blue mate had a pint in The Albert ..The Sherwood was closed down gpne...no more....
The Sherwood was just one of those pubs...it really was....Bouncing .every time i went in there after City played on a sat,win lose or draw....
Great pub,great memories
