New CL Format Thoughts | After GW2 (pg13) | GW3 (pg33)

For all that it’s convoluted nonsense the new format means we’re not out of it yet. We’ve got some exalted company down the bottom half with Real Madrid and PSG. No need to worry about it now till January when we are hopefully in a better place, get the points we need to go through and then go on to win it.

This shit form makes me think we can win the CL this season. Being in top form in the 1st half of the season means fuck all in the CL.

Many know that come April Real and City will be among the favourites to win it. Of course, first we have to qualify, Real too :) But if both teams go through, chances are they will be much better in the knock-down rounds.

Can players who have already played for someone else in the CL play for City if we sign them in January, and if so, at what stage?
From UEFA's guidelines:

Can clubs change their squads again this season?

Yes, if they get through the league phase. Ahead of the knockout phase, clubs can register a maximum of three new players by 24:00 CET on 6 February 2025.

Any or all of the players from the above quota of three may have been fielded for another club in the qualifying phase, play-offs or league phase of the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League.

The overall limit of 25 players on List A remains, though, along with the quota of eight locally-trained players.

We'll have to get through to the knockout stage to start worrying about that though

Losing a 3 goal lead against PSV has to be one of the biggest feck up in our recent history
Those extra 2 points would have almost guaranteed a top 24 finish with 3 games to go.
Feyenoord mate but I guess you know that. It's actually the biggest feck up in Pep's history as a manager in terms of throwing away leads because I believe it's the first time in his near-1000 game managerial career that he's surrendered a 3 goal lead. Think I also read another mental stat that it's the only time a team has surrendered a 3 goal lead in a CL match when 3 goals up as late as the 75th minute!

FWIW, I still think we'll sneak through but there will be some tasty looking potential opponents in the play-off. Along with league games against Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Spurs in February that's a daunting looking month. Oh, and we play Chelsea on 25th Jan as well!

If we get to the CL play offs - and I think we do - February would look like:

2 Feb - Arse A
8/9 Feb - 4th round FA cup (in case we have beaten Salford..)
11/12 Feb - CL play-off 1st leg, home
15 Feb - Newcastle H
18/19 Feb - CL play-off 2nd leg, away
22/23 Feb - dippers H
25 Feb - spurs A

Ah well.

correct, we have got a bit lucky with the new format this year, the old one and we would probably be sunk.
