New CL Format Thoughts | After GW2 (pg13) | GW3 (pg33)

My bet is 17 points gets you top 8. We can't get 16 and I suspect that 15 won't be enough. So we're looking over our shoulders for now.

I think we'll know more after tonight when everyone has played five games. PSG are 25th but have just four points. The team ranked 25th will likely have 6 points by the end of the night. If City win one and draw one then it requires the team ranked in 25th to double their points tally in three games to have a shot of going above us. It also requires every other team below us to outperform us over three games.

I think a win probably gets us over the line, but a win and a draw rubber stamps it.

Not really.
Do you think it would be better if the champions of Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland were in this years competition instead of Barcelona, Arsenal or Bayern.
Point taken but at least it truly would be a Champions league. Would you have been happy if Spuds would've won it versus Liverpool the other year given they haven't won our league since 1961?

The problem is in the naming of the competition and the fact it was previously only open to champions and the previous year's winning club. It's now a European Super League in all but name.

Much better. Fewer fixtures clogging up the schedule. Unfortunately, as with everything these days, things have to be flogged to death for the sake of revenue and you end up with the pointless competition we have now.

It’s not a proper league in the sense that everyone plays everyone else. It’s got more in common with the NFL where you get a pretty random set of fixtures in the regular season followed by the play offs.

So we get all of the cheese, lack of sporting integrity and commercialism that they get but we don’t get scantily clad cheerleaders or fighter jet flyovers to enjoy. It just doesn’t make any sense
