seems fair to me that our draw wasnt even in the hardest 18. it really wast.

PSG brutal.

guess dippers up there as they only face 1x non top 5 league team (PSV), while we had 4 opponents of those from which is certainly better than lesser rated but 3rd, 4th of top leagues.

I mean look at Brest, surprise qualifier of France and first debut in CL for them ever, but still levels better than Young Boys who used to be in CL as champion of a weak league.

Liverpool's position in that difficulty ranking turned out to be a false one as Leipzig, Girona and Bologna have all performed badly relative to the quality of their league.
 
Format is way more interesting than the boring groups. IMO.
Of course we have 8 or so poor teams too many, but well - money.

If we hadn't a CWC this summer the 2 additional matches wouldn't matter much,
and I would defo skip teams qualified for Europe from the League Cup, but well - money...

next year we might very well avoid being lucky and have a harder set opponents. unless we play in Europa league.

also lucky to get two cannon fodders from Pot 4 where could have got the likes of Villa, Stuttgart, Monaco who would have all caused us problems instead of Bratislava and Prague.

Couldn’t have got Villa as don’t think you could play team from same league
 
yep Girona as other CFG club didnt pull up any trees in CL. only 3 points in 7 games and expected to finish anywhere between 7th and 11th in La Liga this season after the magical 4th place, but they punched above their weight big time with that 4th place last season.

we aint giving them players on loan anymore it seems (maybe we cannot due to CL?) and they lost Savinho, Dovbyk, A. Garcia too who were all big performers for them.

I think the fact we're 6th favourites to win the whole thing after 8 points from 7 games shows the lack of jeopardy to be honest.

Us going out doesn't really show that jeopardy either because in the old format we'd probably be out already.

Us going out doesn’t show jeopardy because if the competition was different, we’d be out earlier? Give me a month to get my head round that and I’ll get back to you.

Yes, as in the change of format isn't the reason we're struggling. But granted if we go out, that would be us and RB Leipzig that I'd be surprised about. So just 2 shocks.

AC Milan and Newcastle went out in the same group last year, jeopardy is the one argument that can't really be had with the new format, qualification is definitely easier.

If we win next week, we're through, which with 3 wins from 8 games is a farce to be honest.

I think that was achieved when the dippers won it in 2006 or when mid table Spurs reached the final in 2019
