Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
Deselect the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.

There is no language tab, this is on Vista, will that make a difference ?

It did but not how I expected. Can't get to the taskbar so tried to shrink screen, soon as I touched monitor controls, it disapppeared- hopefully.

Can't thank you all enough, especially Q-R, above and beyond the call of duty that mate, God knows how you thought of youtube.

Haha..good to hear. Reboot and see if it comes back. As for youtube..it came up in a google search!

Where did you get the computer from?
Tesco

Says it all really, take your PC outside and throw it under the first big wagon that comes along.

My mother bought a Tesco PC, I now spend every Saturday morning acting as her technical support.

By cheap by twice. ;-)
Prob was with me not the computer, solution was simple to anyone who could see the prob.
Buying cheap, from Britains biggest retailer is not a bad idea, always somewhere to return it to and they never quibble.
Cheers anyway.
