New contract for Garry Cook - NOTW story

Re: Extension for Cookie Monster

I like him.

He's a bit of a fuck up, and I can identify with him as a person because of it. I hate the super-oiled corporate types in charge of the big four, and I like the fact that we have a guy who isn't bothered about what the press print, and just tells it like he sees it.

It's funny how we lamented Hughes for never showing emotion about our club, but also lament Cooke for actually doing what we said all involved with the club should do.

He seems like a down to earth, decent bloke, who always has time for the fans and understands the soul of the club.

He has made some silly comments in the past, but hell, so has everyone. The difference between him and us, is that we don't live in a goldfish bowl where every word uttered is reported on, commented on by talking heads, and stewed over by fans forums.

I hope he stays around for a long time, he and City seem like a natural fit for each other. He's a working class lad, who tells it straight, and stays the same despite the tremendous wealth.

You're entitled to that opinion. But do you think our owners wouldn't have thought about developing the ground and area if Cook wasn't on the scene? Cause at the moment, I wouldn't really give Cook credit for any of it.

If he succesfully manages the project then that's a different matter.
I imagine only the board and owner know where the credit lie's and it seems they are extending Cookie's contract

Yes it does seem that way, and I have no problem with that if that's the decision they make.

Couldn't have put it better myself damocles! christen St Marks was also spot on to highlight the fact that none of us really knows what goes on behind the scenes except the owners. Their confidence, if recent reports are anything to go by, is being indicated by an extended contract. Virtually every facility from the training ground to the medical side ( granted the bars etc are still crap! ) have been improved under Cook's stewardship. The fact that he has made a couple of gaffes in the media doesn't detract from all the great things going on at the club.

That's enough from me - I'm off to the pub! Come on you Blues!!

Re: Extension for Cookie Monster

He knows the business well. I just wish he'd keep out of the limelight a bit more.

Managers need a knowledge of the game. Chief executives need to understand strategic, financial and commercial stuff. Cook does.

Couldn't agree more. Cook is winning me back round. I just wish he would leave the football talk alone.

Cookie is amazing and i really hope this story is true. A more genuine and likeable person you couldn't meet. As i said, if the story is true, then here is to another 5 years of Garry Cook. Brilliant!

Sam, you're always gonna get the odd 1 like this. I had one on our coach back last night. He said about the Kaka blast, the new york speech and the Uwe Rosler hall of fame thing. Then i commented about the £1Bn deal we are tying up, and he said that its all well and good having something on paper but it isn't ready yet is it.

I honestly couldn't believe what i heard. I turned round and decided to have some conversation with some sensible opinion's.

Gary cook obviously cares for the club and I find it strange that he's being slated for his heart on his sleeve methods..

I dont care if he wears pink corsets and mimes to kylie minogue records in his spare time, its what he does for the club that matters, and so far there is no evidence that he's doing a bad job..

It appears that our Billionaire Owner and Chairman disagree with you.

All opinions are valid, but not all opinions can be correct.

Not disputing his knowledge of marketing or that hes a "great guy" just that i personally having invested vast sums of money would want the most qualified and Proven Chief Executive that money could buy ..............By that i mean Chief Executive of a succesful football club .........His gaffes are well documented and although extremely cringeworthy are neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things i would just opt for someone with a proven track record not somebody learning the job under immense scrutiny .
