New European Super League Breakaway Threat

There was nowt wrong with football. Too much diving and feigning injury, plus the over sanitising of the crowds and atmosphere, but little else.

Last decade football was great, it was great right up until the season before last, before VAR came in.

That last league title we won feels like the last league title won when football was football.

Now every few days I feel like some bollocks is cropping up that is making, or will make, the game worse. Too many morons are having too much influence over the game and are taking away the traditions and culture of the sport.

The fact that nobody can celebrate goals properly anymore shows how clueless the decision makers are. They’ve ruined the best thing about the game. But this shit is the rubber stamp on me (and thousands, hundreds of thousands...MILLIONS!) giving up on the game.

I’ll go and watch rugby league instead. The only thing is, while I am a big rugby league fan and a Warrington fan, I’m not a Warringtonian and have never and will never feel the same about Wire as I do about City as Im an outsider and feel like it when I go.
100% nailed it

Dead right in everything you say but the bottom line is these greedy owners don’t give two shits about any of that, they just want the profit from selling the games to the millions in the Far East, India, USA etc. The fact they’ve said no relegation for the founding members for 20 years tells you all to need to know.
The big losers in all this will be the uk supporters. We will end up having to go along with it if we want to continue supporting the club we all love.

As someone who has grown up in the States where the franchise model is commonplace, I've grown used to it but it's a very different concept. The "down" seasons are just used to plan ahead for the following years and make for a real bore of a season for fans. I've always loved the relegation format for footy because it means you can't get complacent and there is a reward for avoiding the bottom 15% of the league. This idea absolutely stinks and the added caveat that certain clubs would be protected from going down is absurd. I have no doubts that if it takes place we'll be involved but I really hope they bin it and keep things as they are.

I can’t see they can guarantee some clubs no relegation for 20 year.
Eg if UTd and Lpool are bottom of the league for several years in a row and clubs above are relegated instead it will end up in court over money and status.
If that happens no team will get relegated and therefore no team will get promoted. Voila! An American franchise model.

United, barca, RM, arsenal, etc have been badly managed as clubs. Whilst other teams have been catching up.

The top two had turned into the top, more clubs are capable of winning things, and the cartel don't like it. So they now want to setup a new closed league.... Go ahead do it - I will be happy picking an English-league team to support. I don't want to watch city playing in some harlem globe trotters league, boring boring boring,

The Football Supporters Association eho claim to represent ALL football fans report the teams in red are back with ideas on a European Super League "just 7 days after their proposal for Project Big Picture was 'temporarily' rejected."

That one word 'temporarily' gives me the creeps. There is much skullduggery about and it will not end well for most fans.

Bartomeu: "I can announce extraordinary news... Yesterday we accepted the requirement to participate in a future European Super League that will guarantee the economic sustainability of the club. Today we have accepted the new format of the Club World Cup."

Thinking about this a bit more I wonder if it’s a generational thing. I still feel I can relate, for want of a better word, to City as a club via the memories of standing frozen on the Kippax, having arranged an after match meeting point with my late Dad in case we got separated after the mental goal celebrations etc. This new “initiative“ disassociates me from the action on the pitch in a similar way to when I watch say the masters as a 20 handicap golfer. It’s still quite interesting but no gut feeling of involvement. I live in Fleetwood so may have to spend my dotage watching Fleetwood v Rochdale and others, guided by the wisdom of sir Joseph of Barton
Interesting you chose Fleetwood v Rochdale as your example. That fixture in the cup many moons ago is one of Fleetwood's most famous games. Non league Fleetwood held Rochdale to a goaless draw, but lost the replay 5-0(?).
I was there at Fleetwoods old ground! Probably Fleetwood's first appearance in R1.

It's inevitable.
2024 is my guess for its commencement.
