Those that were there.... were the hooped socks like the ones City wore in the late fifties: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150108375607816.281371.289818652815#!/photo.php?fbid=10150108379047816&set=a.10150108375607816.281371.289818652815&type=1&theater" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... =1&theater</a>

Just heard a great report from my mate who was at the launch.

He sat with Mark E Smith, who seemed to have one of the most sensible takes on the whole night. "Fucking bollocks" to the marketing twat giving it speil on the stage, "I wonder what Mike Doyle woulda made of all this" etc.

Mark E Smith is now the spiritual leader of the Kill The Cheese campaign.

I find corporate spiel and buzz words all very cringeworthy, and the guy doing the presentation was in proper cringe mode that's for sure. However it's an Umbro shirt launch so I'm not all that sure why anyone would expect anything different, regardless of how many songs they wrote 25 years ago.

Not too fussed by the blue shorts would have preferred white but they have to try different things else all they get are comments similar to those last year bemoaning that "its not all that different, so I won't bother" etc. I quite like the v neck on the shirt, it makes it definitively different from the previous two years. The only thing I would really really have hoped they had kept in some degree was some maroon on the socks. We just seem to win something when we have maroon in there.

True, but if you invite Mark E Smith and put on free ale, don't expect him to sit all nice.

Works both ways.

No problem, it made my mate's night. At least Old City, the City of Maine Road and pies and cynicism isn't dead...the foam hands have not yet taken over.
