New iPhone

I have had the s1, s2 and now s3..

I have loved all of them but with the s3 it really does feel like samsung have got their act together.. touch wiz feels really polished, they are promising jelly bean updates in the next 8 weeks too.

I have used htc's and although they are well designed handsets from a hardware point of view the skin they put on the operating system is just insane for me.. nothing is where it should be.

but I guess someone from htc using a samsung might say the same thing.

One thing is for sure, the s3 feels futuristic and new and has so many features, the iphone looks really old now. They will have to do something pretty good as google and samsung are running ahead now.

Temped but had bad experience with galaxy s2 iPhone never let me down I'll get the new iPhone 5 with the larger screen me thinks

Android and Windows(I know!) have all let me down. Neat at first, but after a couple months...not so much.

I got a 3GS last summer for 25$ and have not regretted it. Iphone5 is a given.

Isnt there almost too much choice these days, buy a new phone and the fucking thing is obsolete in 6 months. The only reason I will probably stick with iphone is familiarity (which I'm sure apple banks on)

Agreed. I had the HTC Desire for literally three months before I got the iPhone; I hated it. It was slow, there were no apps, very little built-in memory, the battery life was terrible and the camera was rubbish. The Galaxy S3 has righted all of those complaints I had. It's blazing fast, the vast majority of the apps I had on the iPhone are on the Galaxy S3, it has enough memory for my apps, music etc, the battery life is better than my iPhone's as is the camera. Really happy with it.

No, it was fact with a little opinion sprinkled on top.

The Galaxys always achieve higher frame rates than the iPhones from the same generation due to their higher spec GPUs, hence the smoother interface feel. Android always has new features a generation or more before the iPhone does (copy/paste, NFC, wi-fi direct, uPNP, multi-tasking, notifications, cloud storage, VoIP over wi-fi, etc.). Galaxys always have bigger and better screens, faster processors and more RAM (or in the case of the original S, more available RAM). They allow expandable storage. They have unlocked bootloaders and update processes that don't remove root to allow for easier customisation.

Seriously, the iPhones are kids toys in comparison.

The Desire was renowned for that. Your mistake was getting a Desire, not getting an Android phone.

I bought the first iPhone as soon as it came out, then moved onto the 3gs as soon as that contract ran out. I loved my iPhone, couldn't see how a phone could be better, until I decided to try out android and bought my Sony xperia. It's a beast of a phone. After being raped by my iPhone contract, the money I pay for this makes it seem a steal, as overall it's far superior.

Stop being a fanboy and get an android.

I have never hgad a smart phone but I feel the time to admit defeat is upon me. I am going to sign upto one in the next couple of weeks when I get off work and can get round the shops.

Now I have some questions good sirs:

1) Am I better going for the Iphone4 or the Galaxy s3?
2) Is it better to buy the phone and then get the sim only, (the s3 is expensive!) or just go for the contract?
3) I will use the data for surfing the internet and replyingt o emails etc. I have spotify so I might listen to some of my play lists too. Is 500mb enough for a month?
4) I have WiFi at home and when I get there can I get my phone to hook up to that rather than working down my allowance.

1) You probably know my answer from above.
2) I'd say contract... You can get an S3 for under £30 a month some places. This will work out cheaper than buying the phone and getting a similar sim-free contract.
3) If you listen to music over the internet away from home a lot then 500MB probably won't be enough. With the rest of your usage it should be more than enough. Bear in mind, though, that a lot of people hammer their data allowance the first couple of months as they download most apps during that time.
4) Yes, almost any phone can connect to your wifi.

1. Having had both the iPhone 4 and now the Galaxy S3, I will say the GS3 shits on the iPhone 4 from a great height. It's better in every way possible.
2. I'd go for the contract personally, I did the sums before I bought mine and I'm paying £26 per month with a free phone. (100 mins, unlimited texts and 1.5gb internet with T-Mobile from mobiles.co.uk, but you can get 300 minutes with 750mb of internet for the same price. I just tend to use more data, and don't make that many calls).
3. 500mb is probably enough for most people, although Spotify does take up quite a lot. The S3 does have a data cap feature though, which stops you going over your limit by cutting data off when you hit it.
4. Yes.
