New keeper!

No idea if first, second or third choice even, but she's been given the #1 shirt. 26 y.o, 1 cap for Scotland, been playing in Scandinavia last few years.

wait why does she get the number 1 and why does City get a goalkeeper who is 1.70 m short without experience at a top club

More Cumings and goings at the Etihad. Welcome Eartha.

That makes 5 keepers so presumably at least 1 to leave before the window closes I would expect.
Got to think Yama being injured has sped this up and where does this leave Keating? I would guess that Keating will be on the move or Katie Startup & maybe Eve Annets on another loan. Cumings is a legit number 1 and Yama when fit is a top international keeper so a really good back up. Keating has some off field distractions but has talent however, this move tells me that Therese is not mucking about.

It does seem that given her age and profile she wouldn't wanna be any further down the pecking order than a number 2.

I defo dont think she's been signed as our number 1 but I think it could mean Yama is going sadly. Wouldn't be a surprise if somebody moving from Japan hasnt settled and a goalie of her talents might want to be undisputed number one. Could be the job share with Keating isn't to her liking.

Cant see Keating leaving. Shes on a long contract and I cant imagine her wanting to leave Manchester. And she doesn't seem to be one who would agitate to start every week either.

Other possibility is this goalie will be replacing Startup but becoming third choice might be a bit of a drop down for her. Guess it depends on money and wanting to be closer to home.

Another Rosengard signing though so Sjokran will know her well.

How long should we "wait" before answering?

I am assuming she took 1 because the other GKs wanted another number and it was available and she wanted it. Whilst the 1 shirt often is worn by the first team keeper, it isn't a hard and fast rule.

She's essentially the same height as Keating. Keating is listed as 5'6". The half inch is pretty negligible.

I don't know what the club has planned for her. She could possibly end up being the third keeper.

It's hard to say from the outside if a player is settled or not but from every video that the club has put out Yama seems to be very happy and seems a key piece in helping Yui, Aoba and Risa feel at home in Manchester - there was a clear plan to utilise Japanese players within the squad, don't know if that has shifted.

I do think that Cushing wanted Keating as his number 1 and kind of sidelined Yama who for me is far better than Keating. In fact I thought that was a bad call from Cushing. I still don't know how I feel about Keating - no doubt she has strengths but in the women's game at the moment a top team cannot afford to have a keeper who is prone to unbelievable saves one minute and silly errors the next. Khiara always has a mistake in her and I think that has been noted by senior management. The off field stuff also doesn't help.

Like you I don't think Cumings would be coming here to be a number 3 and Therese eluded to her being a very positive player on and off the field so it will be interesting.

For me, I hope they keep Yama who can then fight it out with Cumings. As a side note I was surprised to learn that all our keepers are under 5ft 7 for reference Viv is 5ft 10!

IIRC correctly Yama was injured for most of Cushing's tenure right? As it turned out, Keating put some good performances in during that time.

I agree with you that currently Yama is the more complete player and a really good presence at the club too.

Its a difficult choice re Keating as ultimately, I think her ceiling is really high. And we have a young player who i get the feeling would happily stay with us for the foreseeable. Shes still a rough a diamond but I think with a bit more maturity and top coaching she could be the very best. So do we throw our lot in with her even if it means losing Yama a year or two earlier than we would have liked?

Well that's stumped me!

I did foresee a possibility of signing an unequivocal no 1 GK if Yama asked for assurances to be no 1 and decided to leave having not been given them.

But Yama's still here and apparently injured (which was news to me).

I think Cushing had Yama as no 1. She then got injured in match 2 in the Chelsea series, and never returned to the starting 11. But given that she was on the bench one week and then not on it at all the next, maybe she never regained true fitness.

We "kind of" have 6 keepers - haven't we? There's that ridiculously young one who's played for Northern Ireland.

Abbie Smith is 16 or 17 so will still be with our youth team. Only 5 keepers listed in the women's squad on the City website.

More on Abbie here:

Yama was at the training session on Tuesday. She was definitely carrying an injury to her left leg.Kept her knee as straight as possible while hobbling about.

You never know. Maybe she is arriving as third choice. I think she's only third choice for Scotland and its not like she managed to establish herself when she was at liverpool. She's arriving from a team midtable in a league which was historically quite strong, but lets face it, it's way behind the WSL in standard these days.

If she fancies coming home and there arent any offers from the WSL for a first team spot, I guess you just go with the club offering you a back up spot but with the best working environment and pay. Kind of hope that's the case as id loathe to lose either of Keating or Yama.
