New Kitchens

Everybody thinks theyre getting ripped off , people truly believe there is too much profit in kitchens , MFI went bust , Moben ,bust Kitchens Direct , bust Betta Kitchens ,bust
plenty of others i have long forgotten . Its a cut-throat business !
Once the cheapest kitchen the customer can find arrives , amazingly its a load of crap ,and the kitchen industry gets a bad rep ,yet its the customer forcing prices
(and quality) down

The kitchen companies mainly went bust as they were selling on finance and to building sites - so in 2008 both suffered badly.

The industry the had kitchens which cost £2.5k in parts sell for £6k fitted, and massive bonuses to salesmen and directors, and fitting would have been reasonable for £600 at the time, with delivery maybe £100 average max. Even though in a brochure the kitchen was worth £16k but as a show home they could have a once in a life time discount. There were a lot of shady operators making a fortune out of selling chipboard.

We had a kitchen supplied and fitted from a place in Ramsbottom. I think they were called Ramsbottom kitchens or something like that. No flat pack or fixings showing, Inc cooker, sink, tiling, floor, electrics, cert. 5 m long kitchen with furniture all round. No problems. Would recommend which is unusual for me being a qs.

I had a kitchen installed by Paul Davies in Bolton a few years ago. As they are a large appliance retailer as well as kitchens you can pick and choose the appliances to suite your budget. The kitchen I had was good, solid and had no major problems with it.

Mixed and matched ours 4 years ago. Solid oak worktops from wickes, units from b and q, taps and sinks from an online shop, built in stuff price matched from another online place and fitted by a recommendation. Was around 5k all in, including the spark needed to upgrade the leccy.

Shop around. Quotes a plenty.

You did really well for £5k. The electrics quote is £1,350 alone, with a local kitchen supplier giving us a kitchen quote for £7,500 for everything else (even though we are keeping our single oven).

Try DIY Kitchens, I went to the factory/showroom an Pontefract before buying one from them at our old house, i've fitted an Ikea kitchen a few years back and they are fairly decent albeit a bit of a struggle to run drainage or anything at the back of units as they fit closer to the wall than most manufacturers. Howdens are well rated amongst a few friends in the trade but I couldn't find exactly what I wanted from them.

Don't buy one from Vance Miller or any of his cronies lol

I knew the spark which helped and the plumber is my best mate. The fitter was a mate of a mate so a lot cheaper. The fridge freezer, wine cooler, washing machine and dishwasher were all price matched from an online store which also knocked the cost down. The only thing that cost a lot more than I thought was the worktops. 1500 quid all in.

Don’t use Timperley Kitchens - whilst the kitchen is very nice the delivery, commutation and follow-up is was very poor

we used howdens. The 'designer' was bobbins but gave us a good idea of what we could have, and it was free, no hassle visit.
Quality is bang on as was price. Had to go back a couple of times for missing bits but was no bother.

Dont forget to get them little clear strips that go on bottom of kick boards and, pun intended' splash out on a good tap.
If you have your own fitter, howdens are good. We had our utility room done with their kitchen cabinets and the quality was very good indeed.
