Despite TCIB's valient efforts a while ago to help sort my ancient Packard Bell, it's slowly dying a death, and realise it needs replacing.

Looking for advice of make and models to look at from the tech heads on here.

Don't need it for gaming or anything......purely for t'internet, storing music for our iPods, email and photos really....

Been recomended the Sony Vaio VCPetb1e at £750 from PC World. Also told Asus are the dog's danglies too...? Those available on Tesco Direct are preferrable, as the missus has about £400 worth of clubcard points to use against any purchase...

Cheers in advance.

If thats all you use it for i would be looking for something robust over specs mate. Anything running windows seven will eat what your using it for. Ive found toshiba lappies to be hardwearing workhorses. Buying something with a super duper processor would be like getting a rolls royce for the scool run. I got Mrs sprout a Tosh sattelite L40 4 yrs ago for about £250 (ex display model too) and apart from the battery not holding charge it still performs well, burning, surfing, and itunes use mainly.

That would be my recomendation from experience pal, but others will have others :)

£750 is a lot if you don't want anything special. I went for a medion brand, German built but not very well known. I'd say with what you want a 2/3 year warranty as standard is probably the most important thing to look for. Then maybe decent battery life. Dont get drawn in by latest shiny shiny offers too, not much difference with last gen usually except price.

FYI I got a full 1080p blu ray reader, mid to high range graphics card, i5 second gen cpu, win7 pro and 4GB sftw ram for £560 so worth a look around for sure. I took weeks before buying, bit no complaints do far. Runs everything great, gets a little hot but that's about it.

I'd also suggest clearance sites for a good deal like Sony vaio clearance and comet.

Love my MacBook.
Dead easy to sync to iTunes, quick to boot up,
no virus issues, no Windows!
