Manchester City.
This is a live version of a song that was the first track I'd heard by
the band.
The year was 1984 or 85
I just wondered what fellow Blues thought about the band then....and now , especially this track....
When i first heard it was telling myself this isn't electronic drum machines ,it's noisy it's not for you..it political,...I liked the vibe ,I was conflicted,...at the time I was more interested in Japan and The Virgin Prunes, or New Order..,I definitely didn't give this band as much attention as i should have....but after all these years ,this track still resonates.

How old are you ?
Every FOC on here remembers all of this

My apologies, I think I spoke too soon. This isn’t what I was thinking of. I was thinking Gary Neuman…..

I'm just interested to hear folks opinions ...

I've seen them once live at bearded Theory festival few years back ......I really should have gone to see them mid 80s when I first heard that track, but, at the time the clogs etc was a scene a step to far for me ,lol

I had a mate at college who switched his music interests like the wind ,one week he'd be into futurist scence ,then US rap , then the boys town ( gay ) scene with it's assortment of US dance remixes...
He flirted with goth.for a good while.....then,out of nowhere, he turned up at 6th form college one day wearing a pair of clogs and clasping a 12" of nma vengeance.....

It twas all a bit much for me at the time.i didn't get it,or didn't have time for it ,so I got stuck into the electronic scene .,.......
What have I missed ; )

Another well known track I recall, but there must be a lot more I've missed
Not got any singles or albums
This track resonates with me today .

I mentioned this in the punk thread. But I got my head caved in when I saw them at The Ritz, probably late 80s. I was wearing a Conflict t-shirt, which probably wasn’t the wisest choice of attire at one of their concerts.

WTF is the significance of a conflict t shirt?

Conflict and New Model Army had beef with each other.

When NMA were on Top of the Pops, the lead singer wore a T-Shirt that said “Only Stupid Bastards Use Heroin”

They then, or maybe they already had, signed with EMI. Conflict then brought out an EP called “Only Stupid Bastards Use EMI”

And it kind of went from there.

I've heard this track before.
What's your thoughts on then and now as regards the sentiments MSE....?
Curious, as you've done the flight across the pond ; )
Agreed back then with the sentiments - same thing was said on The The’s single Heartland too.
As for now, well I moved not for the politics but for a women! Still together! I love an American rather than America!

I watch the BBC news on TV and staggered as to how often the lead story is about something happening here and half the time it’s not even a main story here.

2 stories about NMA. Went to see them loads of times in the 80s/90s. They played a festival in Milton Keynes that included them, the Damned, BAD. After we woke up after the 1st night me and my friend decided to go into town for breakfast. As we were walking down the road a white van pulled over and the driver asked if we were going into town. Told us to get in the back and they would give us a lift. When we got in the back there was at least 12 NMA fans, known as the Militia, sat there. Though we were in for a hiding. But no, they took us to the shops. Whilst we were being served the Militia basically stripped the shop of its contents, almost as if they were dipper fans. Tbf they waited outside for us and gave us a lift back.
A few years ago my son asked me if I wanted to go and see his band at Middlesbrough town hall as they had a support slot. I couldn't be bothered at the time as I had seen my sons band umpteen times. When he got home he said I would have enjoyed the main band. It was only the NMA. If I had only had the sense to ask who was playing I would have gone.

That’s funny!

Think this is their debut single I only discovered it about 3 years ago absolutely brilliant

Not heard that before, can't decide if I like it, the bass is brilliant tho.

Sounds a bit polished for a debut single from nma, wonder what label they were signed too..?

Part of the reason for opening a random NMA thread was to try and find a track I heard in a goth club 2 decades ago and not heard it since. I had no idea what it was called but guessed it was by NMA.
I've now used my brain and texted the DJ for Spellbound notts, and he let me know the 4 NMA tracks they played back then....This is it,I love it,The Violin had stayed in my head for all those years ; )
