New Striker In January?

The decision to go into the season with 2 strikers and a kid who Pellegrini doesn't even seem to think is a striker is completely baffling.

It is. I took it as a sign that he was trusting Nacho but it seems not. Maybe he has his reasons but who knows. I think Bony is a fine player. It is just its beginning to look like either he is not well suited to our style or we aren't good at adapting the style to play to his strengths instead of his weaknesses. He isn't an Aguero type of player.

It's a bit like Edin all over. Great striker, just not for us. Kudos for him for doing as well as he did really.

If we must have a cheap and temporary backup striker for the premiership (and if Pel doesn't see Nacho as that guy) in case of emergencies (and it fit with squad nationality rules) how about taking a punt on Adeboyor? No fee. Six month contract.

Edited to add:

Trusting in youth is my preferred option, just not Pellers. Just don't think we can rely on Sergio or Bony alone.

I personally think we should go all out and grab him next summer! As for January nothing really. But I really hope Pellers will get his shit together and let Iheanacho play as the striker that he is!
Sign Mane, Gaya with Pogba and Lawlor promoted to the senior squad in place of Willy together with the return of Ntcham and that will see us right. Demichelis, Nasri and Yaya will hopefully also leave us.

We can all name great strikers. The problem is, with the penchant for playing with just one striker in football nowadays and that one striker being Aguero, it's going to be very hard getting a world class player to come play backup. If we played 2 strikers then yes, you could envisage having 3 top ones and keeping them happy.

People seem to think Bony isn't good enough but we're not going to be able to get a better out & out striker to sit on our bench whilst Aguero plays given that our best formation is with 1 up top; the only way we get a top player is by getting someone who can play in multiple positions up top like Aubameyang(winger/striker)/Griezmann(winger/CAM/striker) & play them like Bayern do with Muller then let them fill in at striker when needed.

Barca don't have a second striker, they just move Messi/Neymar into that position when Suarez is absent. Real don't really have a second striker, they play Ronaldo/Bale in that position in Benzemas absence over Jese. Bayern don't really have a second striker they just move Muller there.

We have Sterling who can do that to an extent but he's obviously not at a level where he can be our striker & replace Aguero without it being a big loss - so for me if we really want a new "striker" it should be someone who isn't an out & out striker, it should be someone like an Aubameyang/Griezmann who could start alongside Aguero in a wide position & replace him when needed, that way you're not relying on a fringe player to step up & provide goals.

Won't happen in January though, I think we can cope this season with what we have, Aguero, Bony, Nacho & Sterling can all do a job from that position & can't see us getting anyone who'll improve that until the summer.

Agreed. We have over £100 mill of players on the flank though, not including Nasri or Navas. Still a big ask to get someone to come compete with Sterling and KDB for a starting place. Or Silva behind the striker for that matter.
