New under 18 coach? (Lampard?)

I would prefer us to offer Zab's this role, nothing wrong with Lampard but would love Zab's to return to us and start showing these young kids that you need heart and desire as well as talent to succeed.

he's got another year on his contract and probably wants to carry on.

Must confess I never liked him when he was at Chelsea but had no real reason for it, was more in the Gerrard camp but I was badly wrong on that one, he's a class act, an intelligent man and has a future doing whatever he wants in the game. If it's with us, great, we would have to accept he'd drop us without hesitation if Chelsea came calling though.

A few years of lamp Ard managing the under 18s before moving up to better things, potentially Vieiras job? And then that would coincide nicely with Kompany hanging up his boots, could be ideal for him if he wants to go down that route.

I really like Bellamy. Absolutely loathed him until he joined us of course but that was in many ways an example of not knowing enough about someone. He's a smart guy and talks a lot of sense. I'm pretty sure he is working at Cardiff but he is looking for a head coach job. I would have thought he would jump at the chance to continue his apprenticeship in some way at City.

Lampard did himself plenty of favours at City by he conducted himself when he was here and I would be happy to see him come back in a coaching role.

As you say, it doesn't matter if these guys who have strong associations with other clubs come in to City and end up back at their first love, if we steal a bit of their heart; especially the ones that also do punditry too.

Just watching NYC, it looks like Vieira is perfect for the Arsenal job.

It would be very interesting and quite exciting if Lampard did get this role but it also has to be a big gamble. Great ex player and a fantastic gent but nobody knows if he has what it takes to be a manager even at 18's level.

That's why we would be giving him a shot at being one of several coaches working with the u18s group under Txiki and Borello's oversight, instead of giving him Guardiola and Txiki's jobs.

Vieira has not exactly ripped up trees at NYC. The performance against the red bulls was shocking. So, not unduly worried there. You never know but I think Lampard might turn out to be a very good manager. As has been said doing it the right way.

He’s still a West Ham player for another year and might go somewhere else after that

Again that is also true and fine but once again it does not stop me preferring him to rejoin our club as a coach, it is my preference not actual reality lol

Craig Bellamy is an interesting name. What he really wants is a manager’s job. Giggs just edged the Wales one but I think he’ll be signed up somewhere sooner rather than later. Cardiff are up now which is interesting to be involved with. Think he’s a youth coach.

Just watching him on 'The Debate' he thinks the academy system (and City's part in it) stinks.

What did he say? Curious to hear.

A lot really, it's difficult to remember all the details without misquoting him, & he had Paul Merson talking over him at times (but was agreeing with some of Merson's comments) but especially about very young kids, even 5 year olds, being taken on by big clubs (clearly embarrassed that his own club does it). He was saying one 11 year year old's parents were demanding to be able to retire & wanted, I think, a new house, on the strength of their kid signing for someone.

That if a kid is really good, playing for a lower club vs someone like City, they will just take him off them. One coach has a 2.6 million budget & is signing players for his U23 team, who have no chance of playing higher, just to help his own reputation.

He says kids in the U18s are seeing the 'next step' as being the U23s, & that the 'next step' should actually be them playing in the first team. Basically questioning the whole concept of football academies & the money involved.

Those of us who have been talking about him maybe, coming to City, are off the mark I think ;)

Having said that, I now really wish he would. He wouldn't sit there & watch players idling away their time waiting to go out on loan.
