Cosmos need land owned by the state of New York to build... So they have to wait for as long as it takes.
NYCFC need to build in NYC so they need permission to build and permission to buy/remove what was there earlier.
As for major footy teams... Cosmos are not major in any way nowadays as they play in NASL but yeah, they got their loyal hipsters following them, RedBulls are MLS but out in New Jersey so the competition is a bit limited.
