Newcastle (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

I was surprised at Shearer and Given's total lack of balance today (yes I know they were legends at Newcastle) but Shearer struck me as someone who is clearly feeling the pressure with his refusal to give us any credit post match and the possibility of them blowing a Top 4 place.
F**k Shearer mate, last week he stated wining the League cup was more important than being in the top 4.

An open game but one we always looked like coming out on top.

Few wayward passes by both teams. Two quality goals was the difference in the end.

Foden, Grealish and Ake were good. Bringing Bernardo on was a good decision when he did.

Kev is a concern, one moment of magic a game can't masquerade his overall poor play, especially his passing which has gone to shit. I'd give him a couple of weeks rest to see if it does the trick, is it purely fatigue or something else?
Just been ill mate, probably knackered

I have posted a lot of praise for the overall performance and specific players, so I thought I would share one negative from the match:

Pep will be disappointed with how poor our passing out of defence was, specifically by Akanji and Dias.

Think we may have given it away our from our back four today more than we have in total all season.

That said, I reckon they may have been under instructions to play more straight passes to midfielders—after we’ve shied away from doing that for the last month or two—and this was just the lads shaking off the rust (both the defenders and midfielders). I think it is likely true based on the runs Haaland was making (running in to midfield like he was looking for a long ball, then turning once the ball was on the way to the midfielder), which looked much more threatening.

Something to work on, as when it comes off, it completely opens up the pitch for us—especially when Kev is receiving the ball and is calibrated properly)—and Haaland is often through on goal.

Great win against a very good Newcastle team. Foden, Jack, Dias, Ake and Bernie all had good games.
Kev and Gundo gave the ball away so many times in midfield and we are still not getting those passes through to Erling in the last third of the pitch. Oh! and we still need a LB.
