Newcastle (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

I like your posts mate but if you thought KDB was brilliant in the first half you need specs, or new ones. He was woefully off it.
He made a couple of misplaced passes & was below his barnstorming best, but on comparison to some recent performances, today was more than decent.

It's not KDB's talents on the wane, it's his physicality. Just like Steven Gerrard, it's that extra ounce of effort he can dredge up that makes him world class.

Once your physicality is on the slide, there's nothing outside of doping yourself that can stop it. It's nature's way. That's why I believe we've seen the best of Super Kev & now's the time to be looking at his longterm replacement & to manage his remaining game time.

With sufficient rest in between games, I reckon KDB can still deliver a world class 45 minutes at the highest level. In Kev's defence, during the first half he put himself about & made several good passes & tackles & was involved with some intricate build up play. Granted, there were also a few errant passes, but I believe this will be the new normal for Kevin & we'd better get used to it.

It's all about opinions anyway & the important things today were the three points, clean sheet & no injuries. )(

Thought at times we played really well....we were moving the ball quicker and more vertically, looking to play earlier passes.
KDB sadly was very poor and I think at present we are a better team without him....I think i saw a stat that he gave the ball away 17 times today...now some of that is down to the type of pass he is trying to make (slide rule - high percentage passes) BUT he aso gave the ball away countless times when he should be making the pass....he seems to have lost a yard at least....is this down to a slight injury he is carrying or could it be the long term downturn of a player where age is catching up with him.....I unfortunately think its the latter.

On the other hand, Foden was excellent Ake was as well.....Akanji despite a few moments seemed to relish the physical battle with Wilson and Haaland is starting to link play more and more....Dias is again showing his leadership qualities....

Bernardo - its noteable how much better we press when he is on the pitch...he is also a goal threat whne played further forward and at present Id be tempted to put him in instead of KDB......

A tough game out of the way and 3 pts.....

Another tough game next week - Palace away is not a great place to be going needing nothing but a win but we are showing signs of fight again.....and ontop of that we are showing signs of playing good football again..
All we can do is keep winning and hopefully someone takes points of Arsenal......
The pressing increased dramatically when Bernado came on. We were shite that second half until the goal and it came just at the right time as they were looking dangerous. They should have scored to be honest in that spell.

Nothing worked for KDB today but he still broke well in the first half with his final pass letting him down. Saying that when you say we are a better side without him, I’m not sure about that. He didn’t play at Spurs and we were woeful.

It’s a tricky one with Bernado. For me, he is playing better when he comes on currently then when he starts.

I’d be bringing Stones back in for Akanji and leaving the side as it is currently I think. I like this line up and the Foden/Haaland/Grealish front three is better than the Mahrez/Haaland/Grealish one currently. I think we need a settled side for the run in, particularly the back four.

Akanji all over the shop, bailed out by Dias and Ake.

Foden and Grealish great.

De Bruyne and Gundo not.

Rodders looks knackered and Eddie distribution was shit.

Good first half from us, terrible 15 minutes in the second, in control for the remainder.
Should Kev be moved to the right hand side of the front 3?

He doesn’t have the engine for the number 8 role now but could do a great job providing the balls for Earling.

Oh don’t get me wrong mate I’m not one who thinks he’s ‘done’, however he’s always been one who’ll give the ball away with his risky passing style, trying to conjure up the brilliance he has in his locker, but that pass or moment is become more or more infrequent and something we can ill afford at this part of the season.

Maybe he just needs a break, maybe his illness is still causing him problems, I don’t know, but he couldn’t even do the simple passes at times today and was rightly dragged off, I’d argue he was lucky to come out second half.

He’s had great moments this season but not one great game. That’s the difference this season to the past few.

All my opinion of course and I’d love him to have 12 majestic games out of the next 12 if possible.

A brilliant individual goal, a great team goal, a clean sheet and another three points.

Some very good performances, especially Phil, Nathan and Jack, though Eddie had a shocker by his standards..

It was a good match, in which Newcastle played their part; they certainly had their chances.

A very good afternoon, though the Arsenal result put a bit of a dampener on it.

He was straight up garbage. But there was every chance he would do something incredible. That's his season.

i have no doubt kev can put in a world class performance but we can't rely on him this season, he's awesome when he's on it but so far this season hes been well under par and we can't afford passengers, i know he can score a goal out of nothing like at bristol but we can't rely on that now the seasons at the shit or bust stage, having said that who do we replace him with, wev'e had so many irreplaceble players it's catching up with us now, YAYA, AGUERO, SPANISH DAVE, KOMPANY, FERNANDINHO,

Ake is a god send, we’d be fucked without him. Rodders to me looks a bit unfit, doesn’t look like the player he’s been the last 18 months.
